The Emmy's

Did anyone else watch what was possibly the worse awards show in the history of TV?  I don't watch reality shows (on rare occasion, Dancing with the Stars), and I know that after watching the Emmy's last night, I won't begin.  The evening was absolutely horrible, and the opening with Oprah followed by the reality show nominees was bad beyond description.  I never watch the Oprah show but is she always that pretentious?  And then came five minutes of torturous embarrassing boredom--I don't believe in the death penalty but I could make an exception for those five.  There were very few bright moments with the best going to Ricky Gervais, of English "Office" fame.  I don't watch the American "Office" program as I know it can't compete with the original Gervais show.  How is it that the English always manage to be witty on these shows and Americans don't. Do we take ourselves too seriously?   But again, I'm still wondering how something so absolutely, devastatingly horrible--and in such bad taste--could get 3 hours of TV time?

I LOVED Josh Grobans performance.  I think the piece was so hard to put together, and he performed so well.

There were some funny moments.  I thought Oprah was pretentious too.  Also, I could do without Eva Longorias dress that looked like a flapper meets a bowtie. ugh.

I didn't enjoy the song medley but I never do, even at the Oscars.  But yes, what was with that dress?  Loved Glenn Close's dress--appropriate for her age I thought, and I wondered why Mary Tyler Moore didn't wear sleeves.  Sadly our arms are the first to go!  But other than that, she loved good.

It had to be the worst awards show ever.

When I sit down to watch these shows I know that much of it will be self-indulgent and amateurish (with all these professional actors, why are the presentations and performance numbers always so lame and amateur?).  But I figure that there will be enough highlights to make it worthwhile, plus I like seeing the fashion.  But last night there sure weren't very many highlights.  That was a complete waste of 3 hours.

About MTM, I agree re the arms.  I also think that she's overdone the facial plastic surgery.  I noticed years ago that she'd lost that natural look and it hasn't gotten any better since.  Someone who is 71 should not have a taut wrinkle free face.  It just doesn't look right to me.  Betty White, on the other hand, looks absolutely fabulous.  She's 86!  She's managed to maintain a very natural look and yet she still looks 10 -15 years younger than her age.

MTM looked anorexic to me... did you not think that?

Betty white did look fabulous, only problem... she wore that red suit to an award show in 2005.

Probably rationalizing on my part but I think when women get older they look better with a little fat--not as much as I have, but certainly more than MTM.  I actually thought her face looked better than previously, not quite as tight as a few years ago, but I agree, probably too much plastic surgery. Betty White is 86--that's amazing. She's always looked good.

The program was so bad that I was mesmerized and couldn't turn it off; I kept waiting to see if it would get better and even thought that perhaps the hosting was supposed to be some type of strange joke!

I had thought that Gil Cates was doing a better job with the Emmys, but not this year! Apparently, that opening with the hosts was their idea......bomb!

MTM is diabetic and maybe she watches her weight too carefully? That dress did nothing for her.

I wish the stars would just learn their lines and the winners would stick to thanks and omit the political comments. I don't care what they think, just what they wear!

Yay for Betty White, a national treasure! Boo for Emmys to the same shows, year after year.Tongue out

And if a new show gets one award, it gets them all~~~even if no one watches it.......

Yes, MTM is diabetic and I don't know about any complications from that or other problems but she has looked way too thin for many years.  I suspect it is because of the diabetes.  And, yes, her face, although it doesn't match her body, seems better today than a few years ago.  I don't know what is different.

Aw, Betty White is so snuggly looking and it's just so funny that she has the slightly wicked sense of humor that can belie her cuddly looks.  I love her.

Beth, how can you remember what BW wore 2 years ago?  Or is this tribute to g oogle images????

Me? Remember something from two years ago?

I saw it on perez, or tmz, or pop sugar... one of those sites that completely fries whatever brain cells I have left after chemo.
