I did a liver/gall bladder detox last month.  My biggest complaint is fatigue, and I've been trying a steady stream of this that and the other thing for 3 years to kick it to the curb.  I was hopeful this detox would perk me up.  My fatigue is still running rampant, but there's one big improvement I can report.  I can eat pizza again!  Ever since chemo, anything with tomato sauce would give me heartburn delux.  I've been eating pizza twice a week for the last month now and no heartburn!  I think this is a significant sign of healing, and I think the length of time involved in my recovery is just a testimony to the high level of toxicity we receive from bc treatments.

I think it simply makes sense to help our internal organs do their jobs.  There was a bc sister here months ago who recommended products at herbdoc.com.  In a world where there's so much conflicting information, I have confidence in the products you can find there.  I've done two of the three detox kits from there, and I use a bottle of superfood every month (I use the tablets, not the original formula).  Just as a word of caution on doing cleanses if you choose other products -- you'll fare much better if your colon is moving things along at the proper rate.  Any constipation occurring at the time of a cleanse will result in toxins dumping into your colon only to get stuck, which is not what you want at all.

Thanks for the info. The one I read about is available at Planetary Herbal Formulas. It contains Bupleurum, wild yam root, orgon grape root, lycii berry, cyperus, dandelion root extract, dong quai, peony alba, ginger root and more. Have you ever heard of this one?

    LauraGTO,

I did liver and colon cleanse early this year along with a veggie/fruit diet for two months.  This did help the fatigue and lower my blood pressure and my cholesterol. (Both I got from chemo) I lost 25 lbs and everyone said I look better than before I started treatment.  In my research it is a big part in helping are immune systems work. Get the toxic stuff stored in these areas out.  Chinese believe bc is from a toxic body....

    Laura,

What type of liver cleanse did you do?  I just got home from the health food store and they were talking to me about doing a liver cleanse to help now that chemo is over.  They wanted me to take milk thistle for 15 days.  I seem to remember somwhere on a post someone saying ER positive bc patients should not use milk thistle.  any suggestions.

    Debi,

You need to take something a lot stronger than milk thistle.(one more thing I don't buy about ER)  You need something that has multiple supplements/herbs I like Tiao He cleanse that I got at a Natural vitamin/supplement store.  If you research on line you can find out how to do it without supplements.  I forgot the website I found...the key is to get the metals from chemo out of your body. (liver & colon where it likes to hang out.) Another key to a good cleanse is no red meat or dairy for at least two weeks before you do the cleanse or while doing the cleanse. The cleanse I mentioned is for thirty days and is a gentle cleanse.  I know someone on this site uses, one whole lemon with rim, three gloves of garlic and extra virgin olive oil in a blender and than drink it. This is part of a lot of natural cleanses.

Laura, My doctor (chiro) put me on a liver cleanse with a product called Advaclear by Metagenics. You can check it out on their website. It can only be bought through doctors. I followed a restricted diet for 2 weeks taking several pills a day. There is also  liquid version but I have a hard time drinking thick things and I could not get it down. The liquid is only for a few days, so it is easier if you can get it down. Then I did a colon cleanse which I also got from my doc which is basically vit c and magnesium. You can get a similar product at the Vitamin Shoppe. I got some of this for my uncle after he was all plugged up from heart surgery and nothing the doctors were giving him was working. It finally cleaned him out. It is very bitter, and I mix it with some OJ, water and pomgranete juice so I can get it down. It felt great to detox, and I still use this stuff regularly for maintenance. Keeping the liver clean is vital since it is the filter for the body.

Wow...thanks girls for all the info! Perhaps others will join in and rid our temples of nasty toxins. I will definately look into these suggestions.

Debi - I haven't done a liver flush yet. I wanted to post here and see what others have done before I decide which one to do.

Linda - Would my Onc be able to prescribe a liver flush? Or would it have to be through a holistic doctor? I have my "every 3 month" Onc visit next week...I will ask, but in the meantime, I'm curious. I think I would be okay with a thick liquid...although...hmmm perhaps it's best that I drink it while not far from the porcelain gawd! LOL Thanks for the info.

Your doctor could probably get the stuff I used through the metagenics website. My doctor really likes this brand because it is made in California and has no bad additives. She has been to the plant to check it out. If your doctor does not want to go this route, I can put you in touch with my doc, who is in Wheaton. I think you are in the area?

Hi Linda - I forgot about this thread! lol My brain...scary.

But...thanks for the offer. Wheaton is a haul, but do-able...just in case. I will check out the metagenics site. But I also found another one that I may do:

A liver flush is a home remedy. Although there are many variations, it typically involves drinking two glasses of organic apple juice every two hours for two days, eating only fruits and vegetables. At the end of the two days, take one to two tablespoons of Epsom salts dissolved in water, followed by half a cup of olive oil with lemon juice at bedtime.

I'll also see what my Onc says on Friday.

Is there any concern about medications when doing these cleanses ? I take Femara, Zoloft, Norvasc and MS Contin daily---can I still do liver or colon cleanse?  I see that some products are available in stores but others are things found at home....what experiences has anyone had?  Do I need cleareance fro onc to do?
