Side effects of Taxol/Herceptin?

So, I am doing my last dose of Adriamyacin/cyclophosphemide this Friday - AMEN...I am nauseous just thinking about it!!
I will start Taxol/Herceptin 3 weeks after this dose - can anyone tell me abou the side effects? I am planning to go with my 3 1/2 year and 18 month old boys to meet a friend and her boys at a hotel for the weekend after I start- is this totally crazy? I've been told that you don't get the gross nauseous feeling that you get from A/C, but just curious what I am looking at for feeling. I have tolerated the AC pretty well; am 32 yrs old so I think that has helped me. Here's another weird thing - my hair is actually GROWING on my head - is that crazy or what? It's not thick or anything, but it is definitely growing!

I found Taxol/Herceptin much, much easier to take than AC. You can get some muscle/body aches with the Taxol, but your doc will give you pain meds for them. I never had to take them, as the achiness was very minor for me. With all those kids around, watch out for your immune system. The chemo does knock it out and the effects are cumulative. I have two kids 6 & 8 yrs old and I caught lots of colds from them during my chemo last winter. Also, my hair started growing back too - about halfway through chemo, so it does happen. I was so happy when I first saw that 5 o'clock shadow on my bald head!!!!

I just got my first dose of T/H and it was pretty rough. They stopped it twice to give me more steroids and benedryl. Once the stuff wore off, I began to experience painful muscle cramps in my hands and feet. Then my joints began to ache badly. I tried taking a couple of percosets but they made me nauseous and I am trying to get by on tylenol and epsom salts baths. I am very disappointed that I cannot keep up my daily walks because I have gained a lot of weight. I can hardly shuffle around the house today. If this doesn't let up, I'm going to try to switch to some other chemo agent. I have heard remarkable things about the Herceptin and have great hope that it will work for me.

I get weekly dosing of Taxol and Herceptin. I have had 5 treatments of it so far after 4 of AC. I am not nauseous, although I have noticed a little more in that area this week. My biggest problem is the fatigue, bone pains and burning palms and sore fingernails. Still, it is much more tolerable than AC and I am able to have more of a life, although still a tired life.

I finished taxol with herceptin on Aug. 27 now I'm just on herceptin. I tolerated taxol/herceptin okay but I do have minor body aches and I am experiencing neuropathy in my left hand and right foot but I can deal with it I just hope its not permanent. During my first infusion I got really sick, stomach cramps, nausea, and throwing up but that was the only time I experienced those side effects after that everything went smoothly. I loved the benadryl naps during treatment. I started taxol in May and by the end of June beginning of July I had a little peach fuzz on my head.

About 24 hours afer my treatment I would start to hurt. By the 2nd day I had to take pain medicine because I would hurt from my hips to my feet really bad. After a couple of days it would pass. I had constant numbness and tingling in the bottom of my feet. My hair did start to grow back during treatments. I was left with some numbness in my toes, but that's about it.
Hopefully you won't have any problem. Just remember it does all get better when you're done.
Good luck to you.
