Felicia:
Just went back to work. Will go see Onco next week and hopefully I will be done except for follow ups. Feeling very tired, but glad to be back at work. Flying home to UK next weekend to check on my mum.
Hope everyone here is doing well.
Hope you are doing fine.

Hang in there - the fatigue DOES get better with time. Have a safe trip home and give your mom a hug for us...
-
Hello everyone! I've been really busy with school and radiation. All in all, everything is going well. I'm on rad tx number 17. I haven't had any changes in my skin or fatigue yet either. I'll be glad to be fininshed though. Right now I'm looking at the end of this month. yeahhhhhh!!
I hope all is well with everyone else! Will keep you ladies in my prayers!
-
Glad that light at the end of the radiation tunnel is getting closer for you, Sharon. How's school? Please tell the b'boy with the fat gold chains we said to pull his daggone pants up, lol...
-
Hey Sharon,
Glad to hear everything is going good for you. I start rads on the 25th of this month. Do you have any pointers for me? I am kind of worried about fatigue and burning. I went back to work on the 2nd and my job is physical but I'll take it as it comes.
Hey Felicia, how're are things?
-
Yogi
I would say make sure you use something on your skin during Rads. The Rad nurse will recommend something. The fatigue is something I am still dealing with but I am glad to be finished with treatment.
Ladies!
i hope you are all keeping well!

Yogi, for me, aquafor after each treatment was a wonder during rads. I also used vitamin E oil during the day. Like Paula said, your rads techs and onc will have more suggestions for you...
If you haven't gotten it yet, start looking in your health food stores for the "natural" deodorant crystals as that will be all you can wear to fight the funk during rads. Regular deodorants contain aluminum, which is a no-no for radiation. The crystals cost about $5 but last forever...
-
Hi ladies, glad to see you guys are still around!!!
Yogi, I haven't had to use any creams or anything for my skin. I use caress/dove soap and that's it. I don't use any deordorant, for some reason maybe because of chemo, but I don't have underarm odors. I don't wear perfumes but I do spray the body sprays on my camisoles that I wear under the shirts. I am tender in the area that gets rads so I don't wear bras or sport bras. But, there is nothing to be afriad or nervous about. You'll be fine! Once you know the ladies that will be your rad techs you'll get into the routine better. My techs are awesome! My rad onc did tell me that if I started to burn or have skin problems, that he would prescribe something for me.
Felicia-girl it's not just the saggy, showing all your butt homeboys, it's the too short, too tight, titties all out hip hop girls too. I want to tell some of the supposed to be "career minded" young women to put some darn clothes on! Oh, well. I'm doing really well though with my courses, better than I expected!
Anywho, gotta get back to the books! Talk to you gals soon!
Take care everyone!
-
Thanks, Paula, Felicia and Sharon. I will look into the crystal deordorant idea just in case, but like Sharon I don't have any underarm odor. I have not had to use deordorant all summer!! I've done yard work, walked, and rode my bike and through it all not one case of underarm odor. Before b/c the funk would have been on me like white on rice. Now that's one side effect that I am going to miss. I appreciate the pointers.
Sharon, a few years back I took a few classes at a local university and I understand how you feel. It seems like some younger people think college is for hookin up or clubbin', not to say that they don't take their education seriously but there is a time and place for certain apparel.
My job has rotating shifts so right now I am taking a few classes online.
Well, talk to you ladies later.

Hi Ladies,
I'm still here.
Been getting chemo and almost half way thru it. Last A/C will be Friday then I start 4 rounds of Taxol. I am thanking God that I will be thru with chemo before December so I can really enjoy the Holidays! Still experiencing lots of N/V. In fact, I now get nauseated just thinking about getting the chemo. Had to put my littlest DD in full time daycare because I was tired and sleeping too much to watch her properly.
Yogi, I am going to start rads in January and am planning to use a deodorant called 'Lavilin.' It is made in Isreal but can be found in some health food stores in the USA and I have also seen it on Ebay. The best thing about it is that it kills the bacteria that cause odor and it is so effective that you only have to use it every 5 to 7 days. I plan to apply it over the weekends before bed. It is visible with the first application but after you bathe the first time it disappears but remains effective. You remain odor free and deodorant free all week long. Great for those who are undergoing rads. You can look it up online.....very effective.....plus it is all natural & without aluminum.
As for lotion etc. during rads, I bought an Aloe Vera plant and am planning to soothe my rads area by just using the aloe directly from the plant leaf. I'm just going to break a piece of leaf and use it when I need it. This was recommended to me by a few other BC sisters who have been thru rads already. This is as close to 100% aloe as you can get.
Blessings,
Roya

Hello Ladies. Good 2 C U all here. I finished chemo on the 4th. I am not doing radation. I have opted for a bi-lat since i found out that I tested postive for the brca1 and triple neg. I have been advised to let my count rebound 4-6 weeks. then get them off. I really want to wait till 1st of Nov so that I can get my house in order and participate in B/C awareness stuff during October. My church and my employer are involved in the making strides walk.
Otherwise I am doing well just waiting for my hair to grow back. Take care my sisters.
-
Hello all,
Glad to see everyone is doing well. Liked your pictures Sharon. Everything is pretty good here. Getting ready for my one year cancerversary. October 8th. And celebrating my 39th birthday on October 17. I am going to to be busy doing alot of breast cancer awareness stuff next month. I am having a pink pot luck to inform some of my friends and some of the other AA in my community about bc. I am also walking in Strides Against Breast Cancer on October 25. And I am having all of my teen mentees at the high school and at the Boys and Girls Club wearing Pink one day next month. In November I plan to attend a bc conference in Chicago where Robin Roberts is going to be a guest speaker. It sounds like it's going to be alot of fun. I haven't been checking in here as often as I should but know that you all are always in my prayers. And continue to pray for me.
take care everyone,
Sabrina

Hey Ladies!!
Roya, thanks for the tip about Lavilin. I am going to look it up in just a minute. It was a good call putting your DD in daycare fulltime. It's good for you because you need that down time and your rest. It's good for her to be around other kids. Time will be up before you know it; the holidays will be here and you will be enjoying a little down time from treatment and can have fun with your family. You know I'm glad you mentioned the Aloe plant. My mother has always kept one and I don't know why I hadn't though of it.
Hey Rogam, I'm glad you'll be through will chemo soon; I know you're happy about that. I was talking with my husband the other day about doing something to increase my AA sisters awarness. Since I've returned to work I've gotten a lot of support from men and women alike. I can tell people want to ask me questions and I try to encourage them because something I say may help them, or their wife, sister, mother, cousin, aunt etc. I want to do something to share my story.
Hey Sabrina!! Good to hear from you and see your smiling avatar! I wouldn't mind attending the conference with Robin Roberts as the speaker. Please keep us posted. I think its great what you're doing with your mentees as far as raising awareness.
Hey LaShon, I understand about you being nervous. It's normal; I'm kind of apprehensive about radiation myself but I'm sure I'll get through it fine and so will you. Yes, I've seen the new Tyler Perry movie and I liked it too. He is a very talented man.
Well Ladies, I have to get ready for work. Take care everybody and God Bless.

To Rogam, for finishing chemo!
To Roya for passing the half-way point with yours. Whoo-hoo!
To Sabrina for all the fun stuff planned for October (including your 39th!)
To Lashon for still smiling and doing your thing (I liked "The Family that Prays" too)
To Yogi for being gainfully employed in these tough economic times, lol
And to Sharon for not yoking one of the hootchie mamas in class, yet!

Hey Ladies just checking in to say hello. Got a quick question it may be a little to much info but need to ask anyway. After this bc situation and chemo my husband and I who have been together since the 10th grade used to be 3-4 times a weekers. (whoopie). Now it has gone to maybe 2-3 times a month. Is this normal. I just don't feel like it anymore. And then when I do he seems not to be interested then I think that he just isn't desireing me anymore with one boob and all. I would still like to think that I am still that ole freak from the streets (just kidding) Remember that old Adina Howard song (freak) I used to pump that song. Any who any advice for me how to get that girl back. Is she coming back. What is a girl to do? I thought that it was supposed to get better with age. Hopefully I didn't offend any one with this question...
Take care all while I try to go take care of some business...
Sabrina

Sabrina,
What you're talking about is too common, girl. Blame it on the chemo and Tamox or AIs you're taking as they can be hell on the old libido (been there, still doing that). All cause drops in estrogen which can not only decrease your drive but make having sex downright painful...
You should check out the "I Want my Mojo Back!" thread Mena started a few years back. I believe it is one of the "stickied" threads at the top of the "Moving Beyond Cancer" section. It is full of great tricks/tips that other bc survivors still dealing with the after-affects of treatment are doing to help turn up the heat again in the bedroom.
Your body may be different, but remember what the biggest sexual organ is: your brain. Now go ahead and get your silk teddys on, take some of the advice from the thread and enjoy yourself...
-
Thanks for the tip Felicia! I will check that thread out. "I Want My Mojo Back "!!!!!!!!
-
Hello Ladies I just want to say that I love you all and I am thankful for this great sisterhood. Take care all and be blessed!!!
-
Sabrina, honey, I just read your post and I know how you feel!!! I miss the old freaky me!! My husband is being supportive in that category but I know he misses it too. We used to always joke about my sex drive being high and me wearing him out... well chemo took care of that (sigh).
I'm just waiting for it to pass hopefully it will and when I get my MOJO back I do have some new ideas thanks to the MOJO threads.
Yogi

I know exactly what you ladies are going through also. I think part of it for me is how I feel about myself. I miss the old me. My husband used to come to bed late on purpose because he couldn't keep me off of him. After chemo I think we've had sex three times maybe, and each time I couldn't get into it because I was so embarressed about how my body looked. I spent most of the time trying to keep my top from moving so that my one boob wouldn't show and trying to keep my stomach sucked in hoping he won't notice how big it is now. No matter how many times my husband tells me that he thinks I'm sexy regardless of how much weight I've put on or that I'm a one boobed woman now, I just don't see myself as a sexy woman anymore. The bad part about all this is that I miss the closeness we used to share. I don't mind the fooling around until I have to get naked and then all bets off. I'm praying that I'll have my issues worked out before he comes home for R&R this spring from deployment. I'll be finished with rads and hopefully, I can start getting on the excersise machines and getting my trim body back. I think when I finally start feeling better about myself I can get my MOJO back!!!
-
Oh how glad I am that i bought this topic up. You always feel that you are the only one going through something until you here someone else bring it up. I guess thats why they have testimony service at church? I just thought people just wanted to put all there business out there. (no just joking). Well since I posted last and I talked to my hubby about how I was feeling I have been making a more effort in the whoopie dept. Plus I read the more sex you have the less pain you have. And I have been in a lot of pain lately.
We are at it more but it's still not the same. Getting there though. We have been together since the 10th grade and we have never been into sex movies (late night showtime & cinemax not that hard core crap) but lately it has helped out getting things started. Wish I was a bit more adventerous and less self conscience. But I know it's coming MO to the JO. Where art thou???
Hope every one is blessed and thanks for being my sister
Love you all
Sabrina

Hey Ladies, I haven't posted on this board before but I had the same problem as you're all describing re: loss of mojo. But... I'm writing to tell you there is hope. I finished chemo on July 10th and had been in chemopause since April. Anyway, about mid-September I started noticing that the hot flashes were gone and I was starting to feel some... uh... stirrings below the belt. I got my period a week later. Now things are looking up. Libido is back and hubby and I are getting our groove back. Don't give up on yourselves just yet!
-
I had some issues with dryness and doing the grown up during chemo, but pure romance sales lubricants and others things for people going through bc pull them up online they might have some things to try
-

Anyone heading down to DC for the Inaug.?
-
Hi Felicia
It is so good to hear from you!!!!
I will be sitting in front of my TV all day tomorrow for the Inaug!!! Going to fix a Crockpot of Chili encase anybody drops in(plus I am not trying to be in the kitchen cooking).
I am so glad for any one who can go there---My husbands' nieces are going--they live in Hawaii,
and one just came back from Japan(Air Force), we are proud they are going. That is too many people for me. The last crowd of folks I was in, was 2007 in Las Vegas--the East and the West NBA All Star Game, they were coming in for the weekend, and we left that Fri A.M. OH MY GOSH----and I heard later it was a mess--it did not feel good in my spirit from day one---that was that--I believe I can still run if I had to---Got prayer on this whole Experience!!! Ok here goes Linda, you know I love to talk!!!
Hope all is going good for you .
Take care.
