Anyone considering PBM after new results?

On the BC.org homepage, there is an update from the recent ASCO Breast Cancer conference that suggests that triple negative patients benefit from a prophylactic contralateral mastectomy if they were younger than 49 at time of diagnosis and were early stage.

I chose a lumpectomy/radiation because I could get a good cosmetic result, because I deal relatively well with scanxiety and I would rather keep my breasts. But, this new study might change my mind.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hillary

P.S. This might all become a moot point depending on the results of my endometrial biopsy (see other thread in this forum).

If I get bc again, this will definitely be my choice.  Sometimes I feel like I have been radiated to death with mammograms, xrays, 1 bone scan, and radiation treatment after lumpectomy.  Thinking I should glow in the dark by now.

Summer - I felt that was as well, but this new study has me wondering whether I can really reduce my chances of getting it again by lopping off both breasts.  I'm having an internal debate about scheduling an appointment with my breast surgeon, who I hadn't seen since the one post-op after my surgery.

I don't feel that I will get a recurrence.  I have had so much around the tumor bed removed, scar tissue included (3 surgeries).  If I ever get bc again, I believe it would be a new cancer.  Currently in the midst of recon (time consuming but worth it).  If I am dx with bc again, definitely I would choose a double mastectomy and another type of recon, very likely would go with the implant recon, as I am currently in the next phase of recon, I will have a small implant added to the tram side and a larger implant on the good side, so it only makes sense to me to go with the implant, and I think I would be happy with the results.   I have put some thought into this, as I know the cancer can come back 15 years later even.  Hoping that does not happen but is a reality I must face.  Who knows if I am in the small percentage that does get bc 15 years later, I don't know that, no one knows that.
