Trimming a silicon form
Hi all! I have a possibly silly question: can I trim a silicon form a bit?
I have a tru-life triangle..can't remember the exact model. It's very big (to match the projection of the very big real one!).
Because of the projection factor, the side 'tips' of the triangle go way too far into my (former) cleavage area. The one that goes around the side is good, and comfortable. But the one in the middle causes irritation, and sticks out of the bras I wear. With summer coming here in Tasmania this has me a bit concerned!
Has anybody trimmed one of these before? I am an artist: a sculptor and a pretty handy seamstress, so I think I could do an ok job. But at a couple of hundred bucks, this is not something to fail on! Do they ooze? could I tape it up with some excellent tape? (I wear it in a fabric cover) .
Thanks for your advice girls. XX

I don't think that you can trim them. I know that if you puncture one, it'll leak, so trimming would be a big no-no! There is a brand of form called Pal's that you can trim, and they're a lot cheaper then silicone. Go to the http://breastfree.org site - it has pictures of them.

I agree. I don't think you can trim them. Perhaps the triangle is not the right shape for you. There are many different shapes of forms and some are round on the side facing the middle of the chest wall and tapered on the other side. I have the same problem and just kind of live with it but the next time I need a new form I'm going to go for one of these asymetrically shaped forms.

A tear-drop shaped form might work better for you. Still, I'd look in the Pals, since you can trim them to suit you.

Pals also makes rounded forms (called "raindrop") and teardrop-shaped forms. Here's a link to the Raindrops: http://www.supergelproducts.com/beRD00.html

Thanks girls!
Today we had a really sunny, warm day (spring here) and I got a taste of what's ahead of me for summer.
I'll order the raindrop this week. Can I get shipping to Australia?

Kerry,
Pals ships internationally. Remember, Pals are advertised as enhancers, so for us breastless folks, the size listed as giving a one-size increase (A to B, eg.) will be an A on us. If you want a larger cup size, order the next size up. They come in pairs, so you will have a spare, if I'm reading you right. They will adhere to your chest to some degree and stay more in place than the silicone forms, so you can wear them with a regular bra, if you like. At least I've been able to wear my 36-A cup forms that way with a camisole. Hope you like them.

Thanks B-in-a-B!
The sizing worries me a bit. If I had an eency-weency breast it would not matter so much. But on this girl, EVERYTHING is there on show. That's why I appreciate the advice from you girls...saves a lot of embarrassment and stress.
Out of curiosity, how many of you have been fitted by someone who had had the big M?

I have never gone for breast reconstruction so far.. I did not even have prothesis for a long time. Now I do have two of them..
I would love to check out the Pals.

Do pals fit into a mastectomy camisole pockets? I would like to wear just a camisole with the prostethis but they are so weighted they sag in the pockets - would pals work better?
-
Hi, Kerry32.
My experience with Pals is that the smallest ones (an A cup in a 36) work fine in a regular camisole with shelf bra, and don't weigh too much. However, when I bought a pair the next size up (a B cup in a 36), they did weigh too much for my camisole straps, and I decided to use my mast bras but didn't put the forms in the pockets, because I think they seem to weigh less when they have the capacity to stick to my chest somewhat. I don't wear the larger size very often, but I like them when I want to fill something out more. So to answer your question, I haven't tried using the pockets, because I like the sticky factor, but I think the size of the Pals makes all the difference with camisole straps. Hope that's helpful.
