Glad I could help -- it's amazing what we learn. 16 months ago I had no clue about any of these things!

Hi.  I am new to this blog.  My Dr. has recommeded twice that I get the BRAC testing done because I have alot of breast cancer history on my Father's side, although none on my Mother's side.  I have read on a few websites that there is a concern out there that  positive genetic test can lead to insurance discrimination, although most of the brochures about BRAC tell you that there is no discrimination.  I have been told (by a friend) that if you have insurance through your employer, the insurance company can't discriminate; however, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to buy your own policy, they can and will either not cover you or charge very high premiums.  Does anyone out there have any experience with this?  I would like to get the test, but fear being "labeled" if the test comes back positivie. Thanks.

There is a lawa against that kind of discrimination, doesn't mean they won't find a loophole, i am woried about the same thing right now.  But i will take the lesser of two evils i think and have the test.  Maybe-i am still undecided but not over insurance things.
