Fiber & Constipation! ?
Ugh,
Well, I hate to bring this up. But I need to. I have increased the fiber in my diet starting about 2 months ago. Id say I now get 21 More grams a day then I used to. All Was 'going good'
Until 3 days ago. I used to go frequently-before the fiber increase...Maybe 2-4 times a day (sssshhh -little rabbit turds)
Now I go probably once a day. Large BMs!
Today I could hardly go (it was so large ;o) Painful & Now I am bleeding.
I thought Fiber would keep things soft...I know it has added Bulk!
I have surgery in 2.5 weeks...I need to figure this out before then! by Tomorrow would be good.
So there is My Embarrasing story.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Pam

Yes, you really need to increase your fluid intake (mainly water) when you increase your fiber. It works to move things along, but only when you have anough fluids on board added in the equation. Try to drink a glass of water each hour or two and that should help. So sorry you are dealing with it, as it can be very painful if it's gets to the constipation stage which you are at now. Little ones move through, but you may have a bigger one up there you weren't passing and now it's blocking things. Just increase your fluids today as much as possible. Good Luck...
Oh, and walking is excellent to get things moving also...Go for a nice walk if you can to help it move on down

I am 1 1/2 years out and just finished off tx with a hyst/oomph. Dr had to use a 10 inch abdominal incision due to earlier peritonitis so it definitely affected my bowels. They are just returning to 'normal' now.
So, from my experience, I would suggest a lot of watermelon with a dose of senekot as needed. And I agree that walking really helps as well.
Good luck!

I use SenkotS a few days before treatment and during the first few days after. You can take as many as needed. This also has a stool softner Another thing they should tell us about before we get into this position. I also blend veggie/fruit juices and drink them. This is a big help. As noted lots of water. Key is to this is get a head start before each treatment. Man...like we don't have enough problems with treatment:)

Thanks Ladies!
As I was working out today I thought- Hmm I bet I need more water.
So I will start drinking it now & also try a stool softener.
I am terrible at fluids. I always have been. I drink maybe 1 full glass of water throughout the day. I drink 2 Deadbulls a day. That is my Only fluids except what I get in food ;O
No yelling at me about that! LOL

Do you think I Should I easy up on the fiber for a few days?
Pam

Deja,
I would slow on the fiber a little. You know some say if you drink something warm like coffee or soup will help you...
I hope you get everything moving
LOL
Been that and done that too...

Pam-
As Flalady said...something warm. I recall drinking warm water with fresh squeezed lemon while I was pregnant with my 2nd child and that helped most of the time. Actually I used to drink that in place of my coffee in the morning and after dinner too. It does take a little getting use to

Whenever I get constipated, I up my dose of Calcium WITH magnesium. Magnesium is in laxatives, and I'm pretty sensitive to it. Just one extra Cal-Mag and I'm good to "go" as it were. Also, I take a nutritional supplement (liquid) that is aloe vera based, and a little extra of that keeps the moves smooth.
Water and regular exercise help me, too.

Thanks everyone!
Glad I had the stool softeners to help this am. Still very painful...But Im done- LOL. Im going to take the stool softeners for a few more days.
Will try to think & drink water all day. I know I will have to make it a habit. I did not like drinking water yesterday & I only drank 3-4 glasses total.
I think I peed all day long.
