I was diagnosed with endometriosis and with Hypothyroidism when I was 25 yrs old.  I started a thread about connection between hypothyroidism and bc . possibly Triple Negatives?

Just curious about endometriosis .... which is thought to be an autoimmune disease as well.

    Thanks!

Dx triple negative.  Am hypo thyroid.  Was not dx with endometriosis, however, not tested for it.

Nope, no endometriosis. However, I do have an auto-immune disorder. You might rephrase your question to ask if triple negatives have any type of auto-immune complaint. Do you think there could be a connection?

No, none here, but I got my BC at 63, so I was post-menopausal, waaay post meno-pausal.  So that might make my info not worth much.

No, no auto-immune, either, just a dad who died of Lung cancer, his mom of colon, his dad of stomach, one sister of bladder, one sister of uterine, one sister of liver.  Now, of the 5 cousins of this group of aunts and my dad, 3 have had cancer, two have died, I am the one still living who has had it and my sister is 74 and is still okay.  Sheesh, I think genetics are hugs.  And no one had breast!  Damn disease!

    Hugs, Shirlann

    Hi Kay,

I had fibroids and a very heavy flow before I was diagnosised with breast cancer.  I now have some autoimmune concerns.  Hope you get lots of feedback.

    Warmly,

    Sadie

Had endometriosis, yes.  Some auto-immune issues now.  Hypothyroid since age 14.  Are you onto something?

I had fibroid's that grow very fast and a hysterectomy at age 35.  Yikes! why so many hysterectomy's? No family history of bc.

No problems with any of the above for me. Had my thyroid tested post treatment and it was normal.

No endometriosis but auto immune diagnosed in 1990. Also I'm the first in my family with breast cancer of any type.

Endometriosis & Crohn's disease (also an auto-immune disorder).  Hysterectomy was recommended to me 4 years before BC dx.  finally had the hysterectomy after dx because I could not be tested for endometriomal cancer due to a severely tipped uterus.  Had a grapefruit sized endometrioma removed in 1992.  No really family history of BC, just a first cousin.  You might be onto something here.

No endometriosis.  Had low thyroid and was on synthroid for 10 years prior to bc diagnosis, but thyroid levels were stable during and after chemo

    Triple-neg tumors in 2005 and 2007.

Evidence of endometriosis found during 2003 hysterectomy for adenomyosis (a condition also involving the lining of the uterus).

Hypothyroid for at least 15 years. (Can't remember when I started thyroid meds...)

I had endometriosis, also fibroid dysplasia and subsequent hysterectomy when 32 years old. Diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2000, but since treatments for triple-neg stage IIB in 2007, thyroid now tests normal. Does that help?

I have a sideways question concerning this since it seems to relate to autoimmune type things - I'm celebrating one year since last chemo today, and finished rads on Nov. 19th 2007. Does/did anyone else have joint pain that far out? From what I've read in other venues, it's not unlike symptoms of fibromyalgia or even some forms of lupus. Thanks.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia .... no treatment helped .... and then I convinced my doctor to try giving me a slightly higher dose of levothyroid ... guess what ... my symptoms went away.  I had read somewhere that thyroid disorder sometimes have the same symptoms as fibromyalgia.  I saw an endocronogist after that and he said that most labs are using an antiquated system.  Find a good endo (forget about gen physicians) and have your thyroid checked.  I might be wrong but it is worth checking out.

My last radiation was 5/9/08.  About a month later I had a hard time going up and down stairs.  We have a new program for people who have gone through chemo and radiation called Pathway to Recovery.  I get up early three times per week and spend an hour exercising.  It has really helped me ... no problem with stairs anymore... and this comes from a person who does not like to exercise.

    Blessings,

    K

There are a lot of ladies that have auto immune diseases after bc treatment.  In my little mind...I think they hurt a lot of peoples immune system with treatment and it takes forever to repair.  Why they don't watch us for this and be proactive is beyond me.

I am 54 and TN now, and on chemo. DX on 7/23/08... will have bilateral mast later.   Yes... when I was 35 I had an ovary, and tube removed as well as a huge endometrioma that had engulfed them. Wish now that I had had a complete hysterectomy, although I just found out yesterday that my bc is not genetic.   (All the women on my father's side of family have had it and/or died from bc. Go figure?   Just don't have the right tests yet... I think.)>

Anyway... think you may be on to something.  I was noticing a casual link between sinus infections/antibiotics and bc from posts on another site.   I've had plenty of them too!

I had extremely heavy periods for years, was put on the pill in my 40s and that worked. Once I went off them at 51 by doctor's instruction, the heavy weeks long periods came back. Never diagnosed with endo, but I am interested in this thing with auto-immume/fibromyalgia/osteoarthritis because I have days where I just ache everywhere, then it goes away and I feel good for a while. Does anyone experience this? When I say ache, my feet hurt, my back hurts, neck, hands, everywhere.  Then it goes away, and is less achy, more tolerable. I thought it was just stress, but am wondering now if chemo and rads did this. And, will it go away? I walk and feel better usually after walking. Trying to keep very grateful for every day and positive outlook, but it's not always that easy.

    cas145,

Here in the US we have CT Scans or Pet Scans the first year along with blood work. Your scan schedule is usually done by how high risk you are.  Higher your risk for recurrence's ( a lot of nodes positive, bad tumor margin from surgery, etc...) the more often they will do scans. If you had a recurrence before they usually scan every year or six months.

Another triple neg here.  I had endometriosis resulting in left oophorectomy in 1988 (age 27).  Was diagnosed with BC in 1996.
