Can't wait to hear all about the wedding, Kaye!
-
I uploaded some pictures into the Yahoo group album.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
-
hello all. Nash - beautiful pics. I love to see the faces!!!
June - I really hoped to read some good news from you. Maybe this week!
I think I'll go through with the ooph this fall... shouldn't change anything really, just make things easier. Uh.. unless it changes something on sex-drive??? that would be a very unpleasant side effect. Sorry for the bluntness. ya' know... I like my cake and eat it too...
Hugs.

Glad you enjoyed the pics, Lilith! RE: your innards and sex--are you still having your period? Chemo stopped mine, and I appear to be in chemical menopause. It actually hasn't affected my sex drive, but the drive has been pretty low from all the stress and demands, so maybe that's why I haven't noticed a change. I'm just wondering if the ovary shut-down from chemo is similar to the effects of an ooph.
Any news, June?
Survey time--I need to come up with a name for the ice show benefit, so I can file for non-profit status and approach the rink with my plans. I can't do anything until I can secure donated ice time (which will be an uphill battle at my rink--may have to try another rink), and thought it might be easier if I had a business plan to approach them with.
So, the names I've thought of so far are:
1) Skate for Empowerment
2) Lifeline
3) Pink at the Rink
After the name, I'd have a line underneath that read "A skating show to benefit breast cancer" then a third line underneath that said, "Advocacy*Education*Support", then the website logos underneath that.
Any and all suggestions are welcomed. There are already shows out there called Skate for Hope, Skate for Life and Blades for the Cure.
Oh, and I have a date to talk to one of the skating coaches who had lymphoma and has been trying to get a show going for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, and I cornered another coach today who is the sister of an elite U.S. Pairs skater (who conveniently lives in San Diego and whose partner had lung cancer very young, so they do a lot of cancer benefits). She said she'd talk to him about doing the show once I secured a date and venue. So, am slowly inching towards execution of this thing...
-
I like Pink at the Rink!
-
I'm with Angie. I vote for Pink at the Rink... it's cute!
Nash, I also guess it shouldn't change much - like you I went from chemopause to tamopause... docs assume I am in menopause - and everything has been quite normal, or rather better than normal. I just don't want "it" to change...
-
Hey All,
I got my results from my double biopsy this morning and thank God everything was NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE!!!!! Just want to thank each and everyone of you for your continuing support and prayers. Would you do me one more favor this morning and help me send thank you prayers, because I can't possibly thank Him enough by myself? Sometimes I don't know what I would do without my DH and this board. I will tell you it was the l-o-n-g-e-s-t 9 weeks of my entire life. It was another of those lessons learned the hard way (seems to be the story of my life). I will NEVER EVER wait again to have a biopsy done......no matter what they recommend for it's the waiting that destroys us. I have now accepted the fact that everytime I have a mammo or ultrasound something is going to show up (because of my cystic disease) that wasn't there before and will require a biopsy.
Nash....I love 'Pink in the Rink.' For one thing pink is so well recognized as being associated with bc that it automatically will tell the public what you're about. Sounds like you're making great headway with contacts and networking. Just out of curiousity what does rink time go for? Are there any colleges or universities near you? I was wondering about contacting a soroity or several regarding soliciting their support. Keep us posted and please let us know if there's anything we can help you with.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. I think I'll go shopping or maybe clean my dirty house......nah...shopping sounds like so much more fun. LOL
Kaye....can't wait to hear about the wedding.
love to all,
June
-
June--Thank God! I'm so relieved to hear your B9 results. Will definately send prayers of thanksgiving up for you. Phew!
I e-mailed Kim's SIL to see how they all are doing, and she said everyone is adjusting well. She also said that there's suddenly all this new business coming in for them (she's running the company Kim and her DH had together). I'd like to think that Kim's making that happen from up above. Also some family issues have resolved, and I bet Kim has had a hand in that, too.
-
Glad you guys like "Pink at the Rink". I posted the same "survey" over on Moving Beyond Cancer, and that's been the choice, too. I googled the phrase to make sure it's not trademarked, and it seems that some hockey teams have used it for benefit games. So I haven't been the only person to think of the phrase, but it doesn't seem to be trademarked.
I'm not sure how much ice time runs per hour exactly, I just know it's really, really expensive, as in, thousands of dollars per hour. But I will find out. June--there are a bunch of universities in the area--that's a good idea to contact a sorority.
Kaye--thinking of you on the big day tomorrow!
-
Hi Ladies,
I'm back. June...I will send out many prayers of thanks today for your good results. I hope you and your DH can breath a sigh of relief right now. I think you should go out this weekend and celebrate!!!! I'm so happy this rough period is over for you.
Nash...I just love "Pink at the Rink". You are the best!!
Kaye....Good luck tomm..my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. A happy occasion...what a difference a year makes!!!! Please do have a BIG
glass of wine for me.
Lilith....I'm getting used to the other website, just have to figure out pix and posting. I'm "electronically impaired" as my family tells me all the time. Your pictures are unbelievable. Your daughter is beautiful and you look great.
All others....have a happy, healthy weekend.
Lots of hugs, Jackie

Hi Ladies,
4 hours to Mawage....(any body else see Princess Bride, or did i lose you all?)
Pink @ the Rink is my vote.
Found my Sex drive has driven over a cliff some time ago....and i have my oophs. Maybe they've atrophied?
Here are pix of Dad & Daughter practicing the moves, w/ DSIL looking so jealous. HE wishes he could dance like his future dad in law.
More when the dust settles.

Kaye!!! the pics look amazing, and everybody look SO happy it puts a smile on my face too!!!
I am getting very very busy all the time, travelling for work, my daugther is back and starting school this monday, it feels like there isn't a minute. All in all, it isn't a bad feeling!
I am having a bit of a bizarre week-end... as I sit here typing, my boyfriend is behind me watching the olympics, and chatting my husband (soon to be ex) about golf. sort of a warp... but they get along great, which is good for my daughter....
Hugs to all, congrats to June for her results (yeepppppeeeeeeeeee), and Kaye... have a great time!
-
Fantastic pictures! Can't wait to hear all about the wedding!
Lilith--LOL--that's funny!
-
BTW--I went to lunch with the San Diego group today--the picture is up on the San Diego thread:

Nash,
You look fantastic. Thanx for sharing the pix.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi Everybody! Sorry to be away so long! It feels like forever since I've checked in with you all, but I ended up traveling for work for days on end, and then had my husband gone as soon as I got back, so this is really my first chance to sit down and see how you all are doing.
June!!! Yay! I'm so glad to get the b-9 news. Whew!!
Nash - I like the Pink at the Rink name too. Clever!
Wow, Jackie! Your hair is getting so long! Looks awesome! Hope you had a good vacation!
Not much to share on my end. Dayton Ohio was about what you'd expect, and my job in Seattle was HARD, but I did get a nice hike in on the weekend. Glad to be back home though! I missed you all!
DeAnn
-
Welcome back, DeAnn! We missed you, too!
Jackie--love your new avatar! You look wonderful.
Kaye, are you back yet?
-
Ahhhh. Yes, I'm now back. Home sweet (hot and humid) Home. The wedding was beautiful - the tree is 100+ years old and the entire thing was charming.
My daughter looked gorgeous, my husband held it together, my son gave a WONDERFUL "toast", we wowed the kids with our newly learned fox trot, and the weather was absolutely perfect. There's not much more i could have asked for. I'll post some pix somewhere.
In the meanwhile, Hooray June for the good report!
Welcome home DeAnn!
I'd put a load of clothes in the washing machine last Friday, then went to bed. Woke up Saturday morning and the thing was STILL AGITATING. My shorts look like they've gone through a meat grinder. THEY'RE CLEAN NOW. So. It's a 15 year old machine - I'm calling a repairman Tuesday, but it may be on it's last leg. Isn't that odd? I had no idea that was possible. I'm glad it wasn't the dryer - it could have set the house on fire! Sheesh.
More later,
-
Welcome back, Kaye! Can't wait to see wedding pictures!
I had a new Maytag washer conk out after 18 months on the job, so 15 years is pretty good. I've never heard of perpertual agitation in a washing machine, though (maybe in my life, but not in my laundry
). Hope the repairman has some good news for you, and that you won't have to go out washing machine shopping today. For me, having the washing machine out of commission is akin to a disasater of epic proportions.
My kids went back to school today--whoo hoo! I was really looking forward to "me" time, but now that they're not here, after 12 weeks of non-stop togetherness, I feel a touch lonely. Jeez--I'm hard to please, aren't I? Anyhow, it was nice to start off the school year NOT being on chemo. Makes for an easier transition, I must say.
-
Hi All,
Welcome back Kaye! I'm so glad the wedding went well and that you had a great time. I've never heard of a washing machine doing that either, but maybe for those really stubborn stains it might be useful!
Nash, my son went to school today too, but it was his very first day of kindergarten so it was kind of a teary thing for me! I didn't expect it because he had ridden the bus to preschool all last year, but somehow, this just got me in the heart. My baby is growing up! I posted a link to pictures on the yahoo page.
Hope you are all having a good week!
DeAnn

Kaye - so glad the wedding worked out perfectly, one really need the weather to cooperate in those occasions...
so I am delighted. I too - want to see the pictures - and with all the talk about your dress, I can't wait to see the mother of the bride!!!!
on my side, all is normal. My daughter is also back in school, and seems happy to be so - getting back with her girlfriends and so on. I am work - and I must say, I've been travelling for work all the last 3 weeks, so it has been quite a tiring dreadful life - living off suitcases even at home, because I wouldn't even bother to take the darned thing to the basement where it normally lives. I am still in Istanbul as we "speak" - beautiful city but I am not seeing much of it. Also, because it is Ramadan month, museaum and palaces close early in the day... no chance to see anything after work.
I've seen an interesting job at Disney - so I have applied. Lets see if they reply
it may be a nice change from my current stuff... and I guess the kids would love the free passes to mickey world...
-
It's so nice to come back from vacation and read all the good news! It's not much fun being back at work though. All is well with me. After not having a period for almost a year, I had some spotting on Saturday. I almost went postal at the thought of having them again. It only lasted 3 days and was minimal. I think we all deserve some benefit of chemo.
Jackie--what's going on with you? Did I miss a posting? DH and I were in the lovely state of NC.
I'll go with Pink at the Rink!
-
Hey All,
Have to jump in here and welcome everyone back from their travels (except you lilith
Hurry up with those pics Miss Kaye!
DeAnn, I'll never forget sending mine off on that big first day. There were about 12 mothers standing at the bus stop and we were all boo hooing to beat the band. It really is a landmark day, more for us I think than the kids. LOL Oh, the pics were precious.
Nash, how goes "Pink in the Rink?"
lilith, how long will you be staying in Istanbul? Really rotten to be in a foreign country and not have anything to see in the evenings......are the restaurants closed early also?
Well, believe it or not, DH and I went to the Gulf Coast this past Friday morning! Y--eee-sss,
we knew about Gustav. However, this trip had been planned for a couple of months and it was extra special to go and celebrate my recent good news. Anyway, we had planned a 5 day trip and ended up flying home Sunday morning. But we had a great time and Gustav be d......ed!
Best to all...
June

Hi all! Happy times here on our board. So nice. My oldest was off to his 1st day of 1st grade today. He did well, but insists he had a horrible day. Where he gets his cynicism, I don't know. But, hopefully he isn't really all that miserable about it.
Kaye... we are all eagerly awaiting pictures! I am glad it went so well. How exciting.
Oh hey-- I got my port out today. It's pretty sore. It seemed like quite a procedure for something they do right in the office. But after last year, it was a piece of cake. Assuming that cake makes you sore and think it might be a good night for a Percocet.
Catch you all later.
-
Hi Ladies,
Sorry I haven't been on in a while.
June---can't believe you went to the Gulf Coast this past Friday!!!! You are one brave lady. I'm glad you had a great time. No obstacles will get in our way any longer!!!!!
Tami...Sorry to hear about your spotting. I'm doing great. I'm glad you had a great vacation.
Lilith...You are an amazing woman. Instanbul? I know you're tired of it but travelling sounds very interesting to me.
Kaye...pictures??? Please hurry, we are all anxious to see them. I love wedding pix!!!!
Nash...I know how you feel. Kids...can't live with them, can't live without them. LOL!
DeAnn....Each year is just as hard. The first day of school seems to mark our children growing older and becoming more and more independent.
My son Mikey (14 yrs old) is starting high school tomorrow and I can't believe it. He's my baby.
As for me, I'm going to have my BRCA test tomm. also.
Hugs and love to all,
Jackie
-
Angie,
Congrats of your port removal!!! Percocet sounds good. Have a good night's sleep.
Hugs, Jackie
-
DeAnn,
I just saw the pix and he is adorable!!!! You look great.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Hi Ladies,
Lilith...Do you mean Disney in Europe - ? Or Southern California? Or Florida?
Tami - It's good to hear from you. I think about you every morning while i'm trying to put my make-up on. Remember when you asked the (probably rhetorical) question of "when do our eyes stop twitching?" and I answered like a smart alec "Never"? Guess what. My right eye twitched for...uh about 6 months and stopped 3 days ago. Just in time for the (yup) LEFT eye to kick in. I would say it makes me crazy except I'm so far past that. Now I just wonder if it's attached to any other part of my body that will start twitching next.
June! You missed Gustav! Too bad. Where's your sense of Adventure? You could have gone swimming, surfing, and sight seeing all on the same day. (All on the same street, in the same 30 seconds!) Seriously, I'm glad you're ok.
Angie - Congrats on the port out. It must seem really, like the end of a chapter in a VERY long book. (Btw, Cake always makes me sore. I figure if I'm not sore from eating cake, I'm doing it wrong.)
And Jackie - you're so right about the kids going off to school. Every year we used to take pix of the kids "first day of school" and I look back now at my 22 yr old's pictures and realize something had drastically changed by the time he was a senior - he looked like an undercover special forces leutenant with the shaved head, the 4" gotee and the fatigues and...yes...the new shot gun we'd bought him. (THAT stayed home, yet somehow made it into the picture.) What HAPPENED to my sweet babyboy? Ahhhhh.Time and Hormones. The Magic Elixir. FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SPECIES.
I'm working on the wedding pix.. Really I am.

Where's Harley?
-
Hi, girls. I love it when everyone checks in--it's like a big group hug!
Harley is on the boards somewhere, and I know she was checking the Yahoo group, but couldn't access DeAnn's back-to-school pictures. Hey, Harley--check on in!
Yay, Angie, no more port!
Keep us posted on the BRCA testing, Jackie.
Lilith--I've had that They Might Be Giants song "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" in my head since reading your post.
June--glad you didn't get blown away! Yikes!
Kaye--I refuse to believe my six year old son is every going to be 22. Lalalalalalala. Heavy denial.
OK, have been doing a lot of networking about the ice show. I think I'm leaning on having it at a different rink than my home rink, as there is another rink in the area that is more "show friendly" and more centrally located FOR WHEN YOU ALL COME OUT TO SAN DIEGO FOR YOUR VACATIONS THAT WILL BE PLANNED AROUND THIS.
Anyhow, I am going to talk an adult skater from that rink tomorrow about it, then get a proposal together for the skating director there.
I'm not sure if I should apply for non-profit status before I talk to the rink management, or if it would be more compelling to get it done before. I also need to trademark the Pink at the Rink phrase (which they also really liked at the rink, so it's a "go"), which will cost about $500. There is also a fee with the IRS to file for non-profit status, but it's based on budget, which I really don't have. I can estimate revenue, but I have no idea about expenses, b/c I don't know exactly what I"ll be able to get donated. Anyhow, I thought I might have a better shot at getting donated ice/lights/etc. if I went in with everything in place first. What do you guys think?
