I haven't had my hormone status results yet but I was wondering whether grade 1 IDC can be triple neg?

    Hi Lynette,

Absoutely a triple negative tumor can be grade 1.  I have been triple negative 2 and a few years later grade 1 and both were IDC.

If you find that you are triple negative, http://www.tnbcfoundation.org is a great place to go for information and their forum is full of wonderful, smart, supportive people all who are triple negative breast cancer patients, caregivers or survivors.

Lynette, I had to look for an answer to this.  My initial thought was that this was a very good question, and theoretically it's possible, but perhaps unlikely.

I found a report of a study of 145 triple-negative breast cancers at NYU Cancer Institute: 11 were Grade 1, 23 were Grade 2, and 111 were Grade 3.

    Here's a link: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/04/080411150927.htm

But Lynette, one thing to remember is that only 15% of breast cancers are triple negative. So, if only 7.5% of triple negative cancers are grade 1 (according to the NYU study), then I think there's probably only about a 1% chance that your grade 1 IDC will come back as triple negative.

I was grade one, Triple Negative, but it was stage 4.  (most of the trinegs are stage 4) Tiny cancer, but a triple neg.  I am fine almost 10 years later.  But we will see.

    Gentle hugs, Shirlann

Shirlann, you were Stage IV?? Isn't that mets?

I was under the impression that most triple-negs were Grade 3 because they tend to grow so fast.

I was trip-neg and stage 1  supposedly DCIS but they found invasive component the size of a pea when the lumpectomy was done.  I did 35 RAD treatments, that's all.

I was a stage 2 grade 3 triple negative the first time around. Fast growing and aggressive but not a stage 4...

I was Stage 1, Grade 1 and  triple negative.   I choose not to do chemo even though my Oncologist (who I did not like)  recommended that I have it

I am triple negative grade 3. My Oncologist plugged me into her computer and told me that  my recurrence chances were high>40% without Chemo. She scared me silly so I will have chemo and rad because I had a Lumpectomy.

Grade 3 Stage 1, chemo + radiation treatment 7 years ago.  Apparently the majority of these tumors are grade 3.  Research suggests that triple negative breast cancer responds well to chemotherapy, greatly reducing the risk of a recurrence.
