    hi enjoylife

    I am just going to have my 4th treatment on Thursday and I am having a lot of nail trouble, they are falling off.  I haven't noticed any smell from them but they just start turning a white color and start getting loose. I have 3 bandades on my fingers to stop them from catching on things. I am sorry I can not help you with what to do for it but my onc. said it is just from the chemo like everything else. I think I am totally falling apart and you are right about animals at least I know that my dog loves me she will not leave me along, they seem to know you are not feeling well.

    Sorry I was not much help but lots of sympathy

    i had a foul odor and some sort of liquid coming from under my toenails but not my fingernails ...my fingernails did turn black but did not fall off ...when i went to the podiatrist he cut my toenails ALL the way down well past where they would normally be cut and they are still trying to grow back  it did take care of the problem  the odor went away and they healed nicely my fingernails are still not attached in someplaces but they werent painful...i dont know if they would do the same thing for fingernails i would ask my onc

    Hi all !

    I've just been diagnosed with HER2. I'll be taking chemo,radiation and herceptin. I'm 78 and I'm soooo scarred. The stories are terrible and I'm wondering if it's worth going through all the misery. My onc says I'm in real good health and have a strong heart. I have 2 daughters, 3 married grandchildren and 3 great grand daughters with ? on the way. I'll try to be around for them.Also have a loving doggie.  Their what keeps me going. Hope your all doing better. Hugs, Dee

    DeeDee - Don't let the horror stories get to you, we tend to post more about the things that are going wrong more than we post about what goes right.  As a result everything sounds worse than it really is.  There are many of us who have had relatively minor problems going through treatment.

    As for the fingernails, mine were fine through chemo, it was several months after chemo that I realized that they were separating from the nail bed.  I keep them trimmed off really short to prevent them from catching, I think in a couple more months they will have grown out past the area that was affected by chemo.

    deedee;

    Dont listen to all those horror stories I have worked full time and kept my house going and yes you have a few days of being tired but it sounds like you have  a nice family to help you out and my ex motherlaw just had surgery at 78 and she will go to radiation. They have so many meds for side effects we all dont get all the side effects and not all chemo meds have harsh side effects. I dont think its good when people do this so go with your heart and do what you need to for you and your family.
