looking for a maniac like me

Hi
I have been doing research for the past weeks on the net. Topic: food against cancer. I discovered that lack of calcium is linked to dense breast (higher risk), curcumin has very good potential for inducing apoptosis and has anti-inflammatory properties, green tea is clearly good as well. Also, found a article saying that low protein diet was also a good thing to do. My problem is that calcium intakes reduces iron and protein absorption, cafeine in green tea reduces calcium absorption, curcumin has low bioavailability and you have to take it with fat to enhance bioavailability. So it is tough to schedule daily intakes. Any one is as maniac as I am for finding anything preventing a recurrence ? Anyone has comments to help me ?
THanks

My suggestion is to just eat a sensible diet which includes lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains with organic versions of dairy, meat, poultry and wild-caught, not farmed, fish. If you try to eat what one source says is good for prevention, you will be dismayed to find that some other source says either it doesn't work or is actually harmful.
So far, no magic bullets have been discovered.
Eat well and enjoy life.

Abbadoodles, you are right, and I read about that yesterday. Certain supplements can lead to the exact opposite effects. Well, I guess I'll continue eat well and... pray! (maybe add a little more olive oil in my cooking, though)

Interesting topic and I will certainly do some research too. My understanding is green tea has approximately 1/4 the caffeine of coffee. Regarding calcium supplements and iron levels so far I've had no issues with anemia and maybe more significant with premenopause person? I just started to take cucumin supplements as I read by several posters here who visit their naturopaths who recommend it. At least pychologically it makes me think I'm doing something good to fight cancer.

Pre-breast cancer, I used to be a maniac like you...I cared when I took my supplements; I cared if I ate organic; I cared about saturated fat and meat I consumed; I cared about exercising (almost too regularly). I did all the "right" things and had hopes of living to a ripe old age ala Jack La Lane. Alas, I got dx with breast cancer. The worst part is I am the first in my family with cancer (that we know of). My twin sister, no breast cancer---thank God---but she eats what she wants, when she wants, has a stressful job....blah, blah.....it's a crapshoot in my humble opinion.

cp- I am just as much of a fanatic about preventing recurrence. For me it has been and is an evolving process as I learn more and evaluate the information that's out there. Although there are no guarantees once one has had breast cancer there is more that we can do to prevent or delay recurrence than many of us realize. The major, most well supported by the research literature include: 1) maintain the lowest possible body weight without being underweight (ideally be in the bottom end of your healthy weight range), 2) exercise daily, moderate is good, intense is better, 3) don't drink alcohol, 4) eat a lowfat, plant based diet, 5) manage stress and find happiness if you haven't already. I am sending you a PM. I'm enjoying the links to articles you've posted.
