    Rosemary:
What is the name of the product?? I know you mentioned Aim, but I don't know what that is, because we don't have such a store in our area. Is there a name you could supply and then maybe I can look for it here in the Michigan area.
    Thanks so much,

    Hi Pat,

You can find their powders at: theaimcompanies.com

They are mailed to you. You'll be looking for the garden trio and the fiber product. The barley without kelp is guaranteed to be pesticide free.

One of the ingredients in redibeets and justcarrots is silicon dioxide (silica). That sounds ominous. I asked a friend and she said it was the stuff in packing peanuts, HUH? Any one know if that ingredient is healthy or not?

    Hi Divas,

Well I braved the scales on Saturday--gained 3.2 pounds, but was expecting it to be even more, so I'm feeling pretty good about that.

Have been staying on track since. They gave out coupons for a free 2-week trial of e-tools at my WW meeting, so I singed up yesterday. It does make tracking the points easier, but I don't know if it's worth the $12.95 a month that they charge.

Have also used my new treadmill 3 times since Friday. Did a 45 min. walk today--and it felt soooo goood. Now if I can just keep the momentum going.

Hope everyone is off to a good week. We will do this!!

I found out what silica is. It's an anti-caking agent. I still don't know if we should be eating it or not.

KISS comes to mind about now. Why can't they just keep it simple?

    Hi Pat,

Yes it seems to be working. I'm not as hungry and I'm getting 6 veggies a day with the powders. I'm also doing 3 miles on the bike daily. So far, since I started this campaign, I'm down 5 lbs.

I will know more about this working in another week because I'm at the place where I usually can't lose another pound. This is my usual stall place. We'll see.

Oh, we have to add a tbl of olive oil everyday to our diets.
Good news about olive oil and BC out today.

    Hi Divas,

I've been using my treadmill--walked 6 out of the last 8 days for 45 mins. at a pretty good clip. I makes me marvel at how resilent the human body really is--when I think of all it went through this past year, it amazes me how quickly it can start to bounce back.

Anyway--something I've been doing to keep me motivated, don't know if anyone else will find it useful. When I haven't felt like exercising or eating healthy this past week--I just picture the exercise and wholesome foods boosting my immune system, and then I picture my immune system destroying any rogue cancer cells--it has kept me on my treadmill and made me reach for the low fat popcorn instead of the ice cream. Hopefully it will continue to motivate me.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Eileen: Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow. I lost .8 this week and I've been working really hard at it so far this week. I think the motivational idea is great. I also picture in my head a poster I saw at the gym I go to. It's a woman running with the words "commitment" below her. That's my new word for the week, "commitment" and giving "100%" to core and exercise.

Hope everyone has a good weekend (and that the rain stops on both coasts). - Janet

    Hi everyone!

I don't check in often, but have read some of the more recent postings on this thread. I started WW in September - Core plan. Love it. I did go off during the holidays and gained 3.8 lbs. But last week I was down 4.2 for a total of 19.2, so I'm thrilled. The walking helps A LOT! But hubby hurt his knee and can't walk right now. I'm going it alone, but not quite as often.

Here's what motivates me. I like to have a vacation of some sort on the back burner. Well, we found a terrific deal for a cruise the end of March! I want to lose another 10 lbs. So when I think about eating things that are not core, I just try to focus on our trip. I continue to walk while on vacation, but I don't pass up the wonderful food available on the cruise ship.

Good to "see" Janet, Eileen and Rosemary as we were all in treatment about the same time last summer!

Hang in there ladies. This is all about getting healthy!

    Hi Sheila,

It's been awhile since we chatted from our radiated days.. How are you doing? I hope all is well.

    Patti,

Your PM is full..so I'll talk here. Yes, I'm doing fine on the powders. I'm not hungry at all. I'm up to 1 tbl of fiber a day and that's keeping me filled up.

I looked up the beets and barley and eating those two or drinking them is very healthy for us. I don't do much carrots. I use a little bit for the beets and barley drink and mixed together they all taste pretty good. As we know the fiber tastes worse then dirt, if that's possible, but its the main ingredient for my new heart healthy diet.

I went through this whole thing over finding foods to eat to lower choresterol and am I surpised at what I found. So I've changed my entire eating and had to add some fattening foods: Oil, nuts, chocolate , cereals, avocado to name a few. If I lose any weight it will be a miracle. I even found a high fiber--low fat ice cream. The devil made me find that.

Let me know when you start, and if anyone would ever want to put weight on , I'll share my heart healthy diet with you.

    Hello Divas!

It's so good to see that those of us who were having rads just 7 months ago are now getting back in shape!

I've been doing well the past 2 weeks--I'm down 4.6 pounds and have officially lost all of my chemo weight! Now I have to get rid of the 20+ pounds I never lost after my last pregnancy (and my little one is going to be 5 in May!).

I've been walking for 50 mins. 5-6 times a week, and have found that it really helps eleviate the stress! Well, some of the stress anyway

Just trying to take it one day at a time. Even if I loose only a pound a week, I'll take it!

Rosemary--how's the powdered fiber going? Patti--did you try this yet? Just wondering if I hit a plateau if it's something to consider.

    Have a great week everyone!

    Hi Eileen,

I'm in my usual stall again but I added a lot of fattening foods that I wouldn't even consider eating on a diet in the past. I got off the beaten path there and I've decided to give the Aim stuff a chance to work and stop eating so much healthy fattening foods.

I'll know more in a month if it actually works. I take the fiber in the morning and it takes hours for me to feel hungry. I don't take it but once a day and I'm suppose to take it twice. I'm still working on the twice a day part.

    If it just tasted better.

We'll see if I can break this stall. So I consider this day one all over again.

Maybe Patti will have something better to say. It sounds like the walking plan your on should work for you. You must be doing miles a day?

Eileen: Congratulations on your success. I'm very impressed. That's a terrific loss. I've lost about 2 lbs. of the 3.5 I gained over the holidays. However, this past weekend with the snow, forget about it. You have in fact inspired my sister-in-law who had ovarian cancer 2 years ago. She is struggling with her weight. I've tried to get her to try WW but she was always resistent. Today I told her about how well you are doing and now she is inspired. So Thanks! Keep up the good work. - Janet

That walking is definately a stress reliever. For those of us battling hot flashes, walking made the hot flashes practically disappear. I can tell when I'm not walking enough, because the hot flashes start to come back.

Rosemary - fiber is a lifesaver as you have found out. I get mine in lots of fruits/veggies and I eat 94% fat free popcorn everyday. They make these little mini bags now that are just right for a snack. It's a core food for WW.

Here's to beging healthy in 2005.

Good luck Rosemary with the fiber mixes. Keep us posted. Yes, I am walking miles--just shy of 3 miles in 50 mins. My goal is to be able to do 3 miles in 45 minutes--I keep pushing just a little faster each time.

Janet--I'm touched that I actually helped inspire your SIL. It's so important for all of us, now more than ever, to do whatever we can to get and stay healthy. I really think the walking is helping me get the weight off, and not only does it relieve stress, it gives me more energy--and I need all the energy I can get!

Sheila--I love the 94% fat free popcorn too. It's so filling and even if you eat the entire full size bag it's only 2 points on WW's. I'm glad to hear the walking helps your hot flashes. Mine went away almost completely when my period came back in August. Just saw my GYN today and will be having a hysterectomy next August (possibly sooner if the cysts on my ovaries persist). My only concern with the surgery is that I will once again be plunged into menopause and get those horrible hot flashes back. Good to know the walking should help with that.

    Have a great week Divas.

In search of a better tasting fiber and look what I found:

HELP DIVAS!!! I'm totally out of control. Since the blizzard two weeks ago I've lost it. I want to eat everything. I'm like a mama bear who is storing up for the winter hibernation. I weigh in today and I know I've gained again. I HATE WINTER. Too much snow on the ground to walk in the neighborhood. No desire to go to the gym when it's 10 degrees. I know that's no excuse. I need some inspiration. - Janet

    Hello Ladies,

How are we all doing? I got on the scale for my end of the month official weigh-in and I'm down 5 and holding and holding...

I just got a motivational kick to use for February...

Results from a study out of Harvard Medical school today is saying that women who are at their "right" weight have a lower BC recurrence rate.

"Researchers have also speculated that obesity acts on cancer by raising the body's levels of sex hormones such as estrogen, particularly in post-menopausal women," she added.

Writing in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Kroenke and colleagues said they studied 5,204 breast cancer patients over 24 years who were taking part in the larger Nurses' Health Study.

They used body mass index or BMI -- the ratio of a person's height in meters to their weight in kilograms -- to classify women as overweight. A BMI of 25 or above is considered overweight and a BMI of 30 marks a person as obese."

    http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm

Well that news has motivated me again to keep on spinning those wheels.

    Ok Janet,

You asked for it...you can either go to the gym or...

get up from that chair and

put your right foot in .. put your right foot out

put your right foot in and shake it all about..

100 bottles of beer on the wall, a hundred bottles of beer..

we can't have any cause we didn't work out

so its 100 bottles of beer on the wall...

you put your left foot in .. you put your left foot out..

you do the hokie pokie and turn yourself about...

100 bottles of beer on the wall...100 bottles of beer

Still there? I can go on

Rosemary you gave me such a good laugh!! Next time I'm in a slump, I'm going to reread your post to get me moving again!

Janet--how are you doing? I'm sure you will regroup and press forward.

I'm trying really hard not to let the times I slip up and fall of the wagon completely derail me. Over the weekend I ate more than I should have, and didn't walk those 2 days. In the past, that would have been enough to start me on a downward spiral. But this time I just couldn't let that happen. I owned up to my behavior, forgave myself for being human, and pushed onward. I might not be the first to reach the finish line, but I'm determined to get there!! Slow and steady.

    Have a great week/weekend Divas--hang in there!

Ok, so it wasn't that bad, I only gained a pound. And now thanks to Rosemary's inspirational song I'm right back on track. I worked my a** off at the gym last night and now I feel like I'm more motivated than ever. Thanks for all your help and inspiration. Together we will all become a big bunch of losers. - Janet

    Hi Gals!

Friday night - thank goodness. Am going to a Women's Heart Health Fair tomorrow morning. Hope my diet and exercise will provide me with some good news.

Listen - last week I gained .8 lbs. It is the first time I've gained since joining WW. Not much I know, but boy did it make me kick it in gear.

Janet - I hate winter too. Glad I'm working or I could get depressed with these grey Indiana days. Anyway, I don't like to mall walk - would MUCH rather be outside. But I do go to the mall when it's absolutely nasty out. Besides, the bright lights and atmosphere always perk me up.

So, as my sister said "Don't become discouraged." Our WW leader said the true mark of a W Watcher is one who falls off the horse and climbs right back on! Giddy Up!

    Have a great weekend.

    Sheila,

How was the fair? They didn't have one where I live. Did you get the cholesterol test done?

I went to a similar type of thing many years ago and on a dare I got the test done. That's how I first found out my numbers were off the chart. I paid no attention to them of course figuring how accurate can they be, I was drinking a coke during the test. They turned out to be pretty accurate a few years later when I really got the test done.

    Rosemary and all!

The Women's Heart Fair was great!! I won't miss is next year. I am very proud of what I've accomplished and how healthy I am becoming. Remember I weighed 184.5 on 9/24/04.

Weight 164.2 Goal 155 - but have to be
    148 to reach BMI
    of 25

    BMI 26 Goal 25

Blood pressure 130/74 Goal less than 130/85

Blood Sugar 99 Goal - less than 110

Total Cholesterol 136 Goal - less than 200

I'm taking lipitor but hope to get off of it by spring.

    HDL 48 Goal - more than 40

    Triglycerides 118 Goal - less than 150
    LDL 65 Goal - less than 160

    # of major risk factors for heart disease - ONLY 1 and that is because I'm 57 years old!!!

Keep up the good word ladies. It is so very worth it. We are all going to be strong and healthy.

I also have heard about excess fat being a risk factor for BC because fat cells produce estrogen.

Anyone on arimidex care to comment on dry skin. Glad I have a hubby who loves me no matter what. I'm really beginning to see lines in my face and dry skin. It seems my face has lost it's "glow". Does that make any sense? If any of you have experienced this, do you know of a facial regimen that might help? Thanks

Those are really good numbers Sheila,

I have a lot more work to do on mine. I took my test right after all the good holiday eating, so the next one will be more telling.

Dieting can be strange time. I got up this morning actually feeling thinner. I couldn't wait to hit the scale. I'm up 3 lbs. My body is fighting very hard to keep this weight on. It's war! I only had 2 small pieces of coffee cake. Tiny pieces too.

You'll probably get off the lipitor, your numbers really look good. I was reading that Vitamin C works in the same manner as the statin drugs do. They don't want us to know that.
