Beesie, I know what you mean about really exposing ourselves to the world.  I was one of those women who would go to the beach (this is pre-dx) and drop my towel just before I hit the water, very modest chubby chick.  Now, I have exposed all of my body parts to the world.  I don't care what people think, I care what I think.  I care what will happen to my nieces and nephews if we don't expose this disease.  I think generally people think young people don't get this disease.  I feel if someone saw all of the faces, so young, so many families affected and what women have done to regain their former lives, they might be shocked.  They never see the process of mastectomy to reconstruction.  Can you imagine if men, in their prime, lost all of their testosterone?  We would have a cure, I think.  I believe some many years in the future, medical science will look back on the cutting and chopping and find it truly barbaric.  Let's hope, right? I want to live to see the cure, to be a part of the celebratory party.  I want to meet all of you.  Thanks for listening, Maryiz

Because her mother has had cancer twice, I'm sure she has been thinking about this for a long time.  Because of the rumors, she chose to do the interview.  She is an active advocate for breast cancer awareness and research.  I'm sorry she has to be dealing with breast cancer and I wish her the best.  She has made me less afraid of having a mastectomy.

    hi

at the surgeons office that done moms mastectomy had a book with women who had a mastectomys. the pictures gave mom a vision of possibly what she would look like .

mom did not get reconstruction. she never said why but i think it would have helped her self esteem.

i wish there was a cure for breastcancer. honestly it scares me. my younger sister worries about it all the time cause she has had benign lumps. she worries the day will come when it is not.

christina applegate must have been scared .  i do not think i could be a  spokeperson for bc. i would be scared cause of seeing what my mom went through but mom was strong . she said if she was a movie star she could.Smile

Maryiz, I agree with you about exposing our bodies and furthering awareness. I also don't care what people think because I think surviving cancer makes our bodies beautiful, no matter what shape or size. I did the bilateral w/o reconstruction and about a year or two afterwards I posed topless for an artist who does breasts/breast cancer awareness. I've also posed for a photographer with my shirt unbuttoned and scar showing for awareness. Before cancer I would have NEVER considered it, but cancer freed me up to find a cause greater than myself.
