Avon Walk San Francisco 2008

I just finished walking in the Avon 2-day this weekend and wanted to share what a great experience it was.  I just finished all my treatments on June 6, so walking in this on July 12 - 13 when all was just fresh like an open wound was such an emotional experience.  I joined a team called "The Breast of Friends" - 18 women and two men.  Two of us were survivors.  I only knew one person on the team when I joined, but now feel I have 19 new friends.

The comraderie you feel walking among thousands of people joined in one cause is amazing.  The outpouring of support and gratitude from the entire community was uplifting.  I didn't really do any training for the walk (just my regular exercise routines), so it was the people who really got me through this.  I was lucky to make it without a single blister, but my feet are still swollen.  It was the experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend it to anyone.  Lots of laughs, lots of tears.

I personally raised almost $3000 for the cause and my team raised over $60,000!  We walked past the Avon Foundation Center for Comprehensive Breast Care that is supported by our efforts. The crowd in front of the building thanked us over and over and many of them held up pictures of loved ones who had been treated there.  Needless to say, we were all in tears.

Will definitely do it again.
