Itchy Rash

Hi ladies, I have been on an emotional rollercoaster the past few weeks.  I was wondering how your ibc started?  I have had a rash on only one breast for over 5 weeks.  I have tried hydrocortizone, neosporin, fungal creams, yeast creams, etc.  My gyn is sending me to a surgeon on Wednesday, after he mentioned ibc and that he doesn't think it is, but wants to be sure.  My breast has a spotty red rash and seems to be spreading.  Not swollen or inverted nipple. sometimes warm.  Just really itchy and seems to be getting painful at times.  I am 37 yrs 2 years post hysterectomy for endometriosis.   I am reading some very scary stories.  Anderson Cancer center symptoms show pink or red rash as a symptom.  Any of this sound similar?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Nicole

    Hi Nicole,

You're doing the right thing by moving forward.  A biopsy is warranted, mostly because of the seriousness of IBC.  It's best to rule it out first!  Don't settle for not knowing.

I had most all symptoms EXCEPT any rash or redness.  I went to two Doctors who had never seen IBC, and actually were not very familiar with it.  They only ordered a regular mamogram.  I politely refused, knowing that not only was my breast swolen and so painful, but IBC does not usually show up in regular mamograms anyway.

I was diagnosed in March, and just finished chemo.

Best wishes for health to you!

Ok, so here's the update.  Went to the surgeon today and he examined my breast and prescribed a fungal/steroid cream.  He said if the rash isn't gone in TWO WEEKS, he will do a biospy in the office.  When questioned about IBC, he said it never presents with the type of rash that I have.  I stated that Hopkins website states a pink or red rash and he still did not agree.  I left the office and bawled like a baby.  I am going on 6 weeks with this.  I talked to the pharmacist and he said the medication will start to clear up the rash immediately.  We wil see.  Any advice?  How long should I wait before I get a second opinion?

Hi Nicki - I pray all goes well for you.  As you know, IBC is a very agressive cancer.  My best friend has been battling this for 7 years.  Her Primary MD told her it was come sort of contact dermatitis and to use the creams - it helped at first but was back within days with a vengance.  She then went to dermatologist who took small biopsy in the office, and the reults were in within 4 days - IBC.

My advice to you is to get a second opinion, preferable with a dermatologist.  God bless you and Good luck!!!

I had 2 skin punch biopsies done yesterday.  The surgeon (2nd opinion) didn't think it looked like IBC, which was reassuring.  He was concerned that the rash did not respond to the RX that the previous surgeon has prescribed, which is why he wanted to biopsy it.  I am beginning to feel like I am over reacting and have been for the past few weeks.  It is so terribly consuming of my thoughts and emotions.  New symptom? I have been having pain under my arm and weakness of the arm the past few days, but (again), it is probably all in my head.  I hope to have results of biopsy on Tuesday, so wish me luck!

Nickicole- (Love your avatar by the way)

Don't doubt yourself.  It is good, and necessary that we push to have our health needs taken care of.  Whatever is the cause of your problems needs to be addressed and fixed.  I had (and still have) quite a bit of stabbing/pinching pain in my armpit because of the cancer in the lymph nodes.  Were any of your lymph nodes biopsied?  I wish you well waiting this weekend for your test results. I hope you can keep calm and busy!  Please keep us posted.
