Estogen Blocking Book
Hello Everyone,
Can someone please recommend a book that I can purchase which list estogen blocking foods, meal plans, vitamins and supplements. I would like to try diet, supplements, exercise, and stress management before taking estogen blocking drugs. I fear the long term side effects.
Thanks so much!

I just ordered the anti-estrogen diet from Amazon.com. It talks about food, supplements, environmental estrogens, etc. What to eat and what to avoid. Haven't read it yet, just got it yesterday after someone recommended it on another board.
-
Wanted to add that I try to incorporate an anti-estrogen diet, exercise, etc in addition to taking my hormone therapy (Femara) because I do feel that my hormone therapy is the best defense I have against recurrence.
-
Thanks so vert much ladies - I truly appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.
I'll check out the anti-estrogen diet book.

I have read that iodine blocks estrogen receptors in the breast too. you can google and find many things out about foods that help flush estrogen out of the body...as mentioned above, exercise is a key, google flaxseed too....a study showed how more estrogen is excreted in the urine due to flax....Broccoli is another one, the crucerferous veges. DIM i believe you will see some women trying that and IC3, there is a lot of info out there and I believe many use some of them, I do as well. good luck

I forgot to ask too --
What is the name of the blood test to check your estogen level. Also, what would be a good score for estogen level - not above what number?
Thanks !!

I have been reading with great interest, the Budwig Protocol. This diet is loaded with flaxseed and flaxseed oils, along with many other cancer fighting vegetables and fruits. You can google it, and there is also an active yahoo group that is devoted to following this diet with many success stories.

I highly recommend a book called Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Dr. Patrick Quillin.
He is former VP of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. The book not only gives good nutrition information along with sample menus and recipes, he also provides supplements for various needs. He does not sell the supplements, but gives suggestions of 3 companies that formulate good quality supplement + he tells you if $ is an issue, which ones to focus on!
I am using chemo as I have locally advanced b/c, but I plan to go totally holistic post surgery. My oncologist approves of his book and said she is familiar with him!
I also am taking Lugol's iodine which is said to be estrogen blocking as well as has been proven to eradicate fybrocystic breast disease, which many think is a precursor to b/c. You can Google Lugol's iodine and find an abundance of information on it.

I'm reading Waking The Warrior Goddess - Harnessing the Power of Nature and Natural Medicines to Achieve Extraordinary Health, by Christine Horner, MD, FACS
Good thing I bought the book...I'm highlighting like crazy. Going to go back through a second time and jot down notes to take to my appointment with my dr.

Well, it is not a book, but if you are not too young and you have your family, think about getting your ovaries removed. That ends it right there.

A very good/educational book I'm currently reading is...............
"What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer"
'How Hormone Balance Can help Save Your Life' by, John R. Lee, M.D., David Zava PH.D., and Virginia Hopkins.
This book answers a lot of questions for me while giving me more info. on breast cancer than ANY of my Dr.s ever did. They talk about the natural 'progesterone' balancing out the estrogen without having to take AI's. Most BC is er+ because we produce too much of that lovely hormone. We can actually balance it by using the progesterone cream. (in natural form only).
Although the ovaries do produce much of our bodies' estrogen, we also have glands which produce it as well. Even men produce estrogen.
-
The pituitary gland, and adrenal glands that sit on top of each kidney all keep producing estrogen.
