Ijust had to tell someone what wonderful bargains I got today.  My husband is bored with discussing household stuff, so I'm sharing it with you all.  I found a nice piece of marble in our basement, after buying house, and needed a table to put it on.  I got two very nice size iron garden tables, without tops, each for $4.00.  The marble fits one perfectly.  Then a nice quilt--no damage--for 50 cents, a set of glass containers for oils, pasta, etc. for $5.00, a brass lamp for $2.00, and a double bed, maple, with mattress--nice and firm--for $25.00, and a dresser (needs some work for $10.00).  Because we live in Manhattan most of the year, I don't get an opportunity to go to yard sales and I had no idea what great bargains one can find.  I'm going back tomorrow.

And on the way home, we passed a church book/bake sale.  Paperbacks and trade paperbacks were 10 cents each.  I came home with thirty books, all in great condition and great writers.  All of Anita Brookner's works; complete set of Chekhov, some Virginia Woolf, and on and on.  My husband had to pull me away--oh, and some great raison bars and blueberry cookies!

I love yard sales!

I do the yard give away.  We live in a downtown area and I put things out on a low retaining wall in front of the house.  We get a lot of foot traffic and things just go away.

What great bargains! With prices the way they are, we all need to find deals.

My daughters and I HAD a yard sale today! My 21 year old daughter is walking in the San Francisco Susan G. Komen 3-Day from September 5-7. She's trying to raise the $2,200.00 to participate, so we decided to have a yard sale. She raised a little over $200.00, which wasn't bad considering we had a lot of small items. It was a long day but I got to spend it with my daughters and several "buyers"...

I never go to garage sales anymore - I'm into the less is more theory now.  However, my neighborhood is having garage sales all weekend - there are at least 35 homes so I decided to go take a look.  Didn't buy anything but it was fun.

but the biggest yard sale of all time is the Hiway 127 yard sale----starts way up north somewhere and ends way south of TN!  goes on for a week and then some.

We do all our shopping and to town trips the week before so we won't have to be on the road at all while it's going on.  It's really dangerous with all the people going slow and stopping at will.

Depends on what I am looking for if I like yard sales, now with the two grandsons I look for them because they are the best place to find good priced used baby items.  A little bleach or washing machine does wonders on just about anything you can buy.  I bought a new crib for 30 last summer.  Now I am starting to go on the lookout for furniture and starting household stuff.  My son and dil will be setting up their house around march for the first time.  Those two already have alot so I'm not so worried about them but my dd is graduating college in may and will be looking to move out on her own so she is going to need a whole starting house set.  I have dishes being donated by a friend who is buying a new pattern and am working from scratch on her so it will be yard sale city for me for awhile!

I use to get my kids clothes at yard sales. Being a single mom, at the time, I couldn't afford name brand clothes and they grew so fast. I'd try to guess what size they would be in next year and buy larger sizes, as well.

My youngest daughter grew up to be the "Goodwill Goddess!" She went through high school in 80's style clothes, which she managed to scrounge up through countless hours of shopping. It was cheap, unique and suited her taste...
