Oh ugh Caya...you and your poor ear infection....glad you listened to your body and took a nap.  That zithromax can really knock the wind out of you if the infection does not get you first.  Shoes will get delivered in their own good time!

Heya Nancy!!!!  So good to hear from you, we have missed you! Vegas was awesome, and I think we will be getting together again for sure.  I swear I had a sore throat from all the laughing and a sore face from the smiles.

I am a bit calmer today about Frances.  What the hematologist's office said really sunk in, and I think I have internalized the reality that it IS probably nothing, but that I would irresponsible not to check it out.  She is in wonderful health otherwise, so there is no harm in the wait EXCEPT that she got upset yesterday and started to cry because she was afraid.  As I was comforting her I could not squelch my feelings of anger that she was going through this...after all by all indications if I had not been a cancer person, she would not be put through this.  Yet another gift from BC.  Cancer SUCKS even more today because it made my baby cry.  If she continues to be upset I am thinking that I will bring her in to see my Onc (who is also a hematologist) before she goes to see the specialist just to settle her mind.  I am very, very sure that they would get me in quickly if I called.

Off to Saturday activites...we have to get Joy vaccinated today because we are going camping next weekend and she is not invited (the drive is too long for her delicate stomach).  Had to go out and buy a new tent yesterday because my old one got trashed on our last camping trip when Matt and I had to set it up in a Monsoon.  Beleive it or not, it is a VERY fond memory...we were laughing our butts off during the entire experience.

    Love you all...happy Saturday!

Rebecca, why could you not just take Frances to see your oncologist INSTEAD of the other doc?  Maybe your oncologist could clear this up now, without having to wait six weeks.  Just a thought.

I thought of that Mel, but my onc is a bit of a generalist and the doc I am waiting for specializes in pediatrics.  I think I would feel more comfortable having her seen by someone who sees little kids all the time.  The waiting room at my Onc's office is like a geriatric ward LOL!  I talked to Frances about it today, and offered that as an option if she was really upset but she said that she could wait.  We will see how it goes!

Oh, Rebecca, Caya speaks my language:  "THE FRIGGING MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER!".  I guess we are not word mincers.  :)  I hear you on the regular dr. visit vs. a specialist.  You could always say that based on your history, your DAUGHTER is freaking out, unable to focus on her return to school, etc. and like Caya said, call each day..."any cancellations?".  They'll get your butt in...

Nice night here tonight.  My neighbors, Patty and Hans, built a pizza oven in their backyard.  Tonight they had three couples over and their kids and we all brought various toppings.  It was the best wood fired pizza I've ever had.  We had a few drinks, lots of laughs and he kids had a blast.  Jaclyn was in her glory, as this was at her bff's house, Nina.  She was so happy that her family was included in this nighttime soiree of families...she was beaming, on cloud nine.  They played Ghost in the Graveyard, roasted marshmallows....a really fun night.  I was so surprised at how well the DH did, socializing in a crowd he really knew nothing about.  He was on.  I was so happy.  I wish he could be like that more often.  The people enjoyed him, our kids were thrilled and I was able to relax as it wasn't on me to carry the entire conversation for our family.....

    Hi all,

Just checking in. Camcast has been giving us major problems ever since we disconnected to get our flooring. We are off, then off then on, ect. We have been mostly off, with lots of hours speaking to comcast.  Right now we are working, but i do not know about later. I have tons of e-mails and I have not been able to read all the posts. I will try to read them now while I am online.

    Rebecca,

You don't need this. I know how frustrated and upset you are. It is just not fair, but I agree with the others that since the hemotologist does not think it is an emergency to see you sooner than September, I would go with that and take it as good news. And the fact that Frances appears to be healthy is also encouraging. I wish I could give you a hug. Remember, we are all worryng also for you.

Meri is home for the week. Yeah!! It is going to be a fun week, as long as she can put up with us. LOl.

I will try to catch up later.

    Have a great Sunday everyone.

    Love,

    Viddie

    Hello Ta Tas,

Nancy - nice to hear from you.  Please keep checking in.

Rebecca - I am so sorry you and your precious Frances have to go through this - to be afraid for her health at her young age, it's just not fair.  Try to call the office again and be really nice - I once got a CT scan for DH by phoning the hospital directly  (I had a requisition from the GP) and basically begged the receptionist to get him in - she did - within an hour. And use the BC card for all it's worth, Frances has been through enough watching her mother go through chemo, etc.

Tina - it sounds like you and the neighbours had a great time.  Your DH sounds like the exact opposite of mine - my DH is known as the King of Schmooze - he loves meeting new people, talking to the neighbours (like for hours outside in the summer).

Viddie - have a nice week with Meri.  When does she start back at school?

Skye, I hope your shower for Holly went well today.

This ear infection and the antibiotic are really knocking the crap out of me.  Yesterday it poured rain the entire day and night, nobody was home, and I had the day to myself to do that shipping I couldn't do the day before.  I am going to check it over today.  My ear still hurts a bit, and I only have one more zithromax pill to take tonight - I'll wait until Tuesday and then go back to my GP if I still feel it. At least it's sunny out today.  Cooler, but sunny.

My 8 & 10 year old nephews are coming over to play Wii with Cassie - she plunked down $500 of her own money to buy it. So I better get cracking, I'll have to make them lunch.

    Hello Ladies,

I am seeking advise on a few things:

    1) I had chemo before surgery and now my onc is rec. more chemo due to 10/10+ nodes at surgery 3 weeks ago.  Has anyone experienced this?  If so, what chemo was recommended?

    2) I am looking to get second opinions from several places.  I was considering a trip to MDAnderson.  Can anyone recommend a good breast onc. there?

    3) I am also looking for an onc. from Fox Chase in Philidelphia.

    4) Is anyone here on Avastin as part of a trial?  Any information on that would be great as well.

    Thanks in advance.

Wow Tina that sounds like such a wonderful night!  Your neighborhood sounds like just the kind of place I always wanted to bring up my kids, but have not been able to find.  Enjoy it!

Ok, my Ta-Tas...I will call the Hemo in the AM and lay it on the line and see if they can at least put her on standby if there is a cancellation.  She really does seem to be holding it together now, though. She is so lucky to have a bunch of loving aunties like you guys.  She really loves you all too, and often asks me for "the latest".

Eck on the cable issues Viddie..those are totally the pits.  I think we have all been there at one time or another, but eventually (unless you have the electronics curse like my mom does) you will have it all sorted out.  Enjoy having Meri home!

Caya that zithromax is nasty stuff...but it can take a while after the last pill to really see results.  One of the things about that stuff is that it gets down deep into your tissues and hangs out for a long time.  Hang in there, that is the standard ear-infection ammo these days (take it from someone who knows!)  Also, if you had a rupture, it may take a bit to heal over.  How is your hearing?  Enjoy the Wii!  We have always been very anti-videogames, but we actually went out and got one of those for the family this past Channukah.  We have gotten a lot of milage out of it, and thankfully the kids do not completely zone out in front of it all day long!

Hi Diane-I am so sorry that you have to join the club that nobody wants to join, but now you have found THIS place, and rest assured that the wonderful ladies that post on the forums are a font of knowledge and support.

I think that you might get a wider range of responses if you start a new topic in the "going through treatment forum" which is found here: http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/6

That said, I think you are very wise to seek second opinions given your pathology from surgery.  I am somewhat surprised that they did not want to go in and take more nodes since they were ALL positive.

I wish you luck, and I am sending you huge hugs from Edison, NJ.

    Hi, gang...

the preparations for Colorado are underway so I don't have much time to write or read. Did see the headline about explosions in Toronto so wanted to see if Caya is okay. Was that near your end of town?

Hello, Diane - as Rebecca said, so sorry you've joined the soriority of BC women. You will find a lot of information here. Much wonderful support from your sisters going through treatment.I really have nothing to offer for your questions. I'm not surprised the onc. wants to do more chemo since your node count was high like that. I've no personal experience at MD Andersen or with Philadelphia MDs so I've nothing to suggest there either. But it's apparent that you're proactive in being self-directed in your treatment. Good on you. Keep that up. It will help. Hugs from Iowa, too.

Gotta get, ladies. It's just too tempting to sit here and play. I've got to pack.

    Happy Monday to all!

    Hi Ta Tas,

Cindy - yes there was a huge propane explosion, they had to evacuate thousands of people, reroute the buses, subway etc.  If it had to happen, it was fortunate it happened on a Sunday, not a business day, when more people could have been injured/killed.  Not too far from me, I'd say about 4 -5 miles.  My MIL watched the whole thing from her condo window, I called her to see if they had to evacuate her building, as it was in the area, but luckily she didn't have to. Have a great time in Colorado.

Rebecca - I know the zithromax lingers in the body to fight the infection, but it sure is strong.  Major fatigue.  And the ear drops are brutal too.  I'm like a little kid with this stuff - I mean, who gets ear infections at 49?  - I'm still 49 girls, at least for another few weeks. My hearing does seem to be a little diminished, but I expect it to come back over the next little while. And Rebecca I know you will be on that phone bright and early looking to squeeze Frances in or get a cancellation.

Diane - it is not at all uncommon to have more chemo after surgery, especially since all your nodes were positive.  Look at it as extra insurance to kill all those lurking cells.  Sorry you had to join the BC club.  Good luck. Hugs from Canada too.

Diane, I don't know exactly how to respond.  I guess, first most, where do you live? We all know MD Anderson is tops, but doesn't sound conveninent to you. Not sure what the care is like in Philly but its fabulous over at Ohio State University.  Dr. Charles Shapiro. He's the best, and the director of the program.. He treats anyone whose anyone in that area of major coropratons wives, NFL players wives....  and we all love him.  Ohio State has one helluva breast cancer program going on.

Diane, I don't know who at M. D. Anderson specializes in ILC, but if you want to get your second opinion there, I think they will get you to someone who is appropriate to your diagnosis when you call.  The breast cancer dept. is a great big dept. with lots of docs, and would be a great place for a second opinion.  They will probably repeat all your tests, so be ready for that.  I am an M. D. Anderson patient, and I love it there - however, I go to a satellite location (much less stressful and 5 minutes from home) and my oncologist is there, rather than at the big hospital.

    Hi All,

Caya and Skye, hope you two are starting to feel better. And Joni, how are you doing?

Rebecca, it's bad enough that we walk around with various degrees of fear, depending on the day/mood/aches etc. But for a child to be frightened and waiting really angers me. I have often wondered what happens to people in medicine to make them think it's ok to let us wait for results. I am sure Frances is fine, but nothing compares to worrying about a child's health. I ache for you.

We had a great weekend with our daughters. There is such peace in seeing them married to good men, owning their own houses, moving forward with their lives. I think they are well launched. This was our first time seeing our younger one's new house. It is small, but 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, very cute, amazing view of the state preserve. Wild turkeys, deer, even an occasional bear!  She did such a nice job hosting us, planning meals and outings, etc. We went on a long hike on Sunday, so beautiful. She is a really creative vegetarian cook, and lives in an area where there is lots of local produce. She is such a quirky person, but found a man who enjoys her and laughs with her. It's nice to see.

I am still worried a bit about work .... the economy is so slow, and flowers are just not a necessity. Oh well, all I can do is try my best. I am so glad I don't own the company!

Hope everyone's week goes smoothly. Nancy, great to hear from you.

    Hi Ta Ta's,

Caya I'm so glad that explosion didn't touch you. Can't believe the ear infection is still laying you low, that's the pits! Hope the zithro starts working soon and you feel more like yourself. My face is feeling much better with the clindamycin, I've also been using the little "pine tree" brush with hydrogen peroxide for a double whammy.

Rebecca, September seems like forever, I agree. We'll just have to get you through it. My onc's waiting room is like a geriatric office too. I'm usually the youngest one in there. I just know Frances is going to be ok. I thought of her while watching those young gymnasts on Olympics last night. (I do not believe some of the Chinese girls are 16!) Hope you got a good deal on the new tent, it's a great time of year to buy one.

Tina I don't know that I've ever had wood-fired pizza but it sounds delish. What nice neighbors.

Nancy so great to hear from you! You've had a ton of stuff going on.

Viddie how irritating to lose your cable and computer; that would make me crazy. Thank goodness it's back.

Melia the house and homemaker sound darling. My DS and fiancee are still dickering with picky owners over the place they want to buy.

    Cindy do enjoy Colorado!

The shower went very well, all sisters in law were there, four nieces, Holly's mom and bf, my MIL, so it was a full house. She got so many nice presents and we had a blast. The sour sister and her daughter stayed away but it was their loss. You miss a lot of life being spiteful. They rsvp'd that they won't be at the wedding, either. (It's a bitch when access to your aged mother's retirement funds is cut off.) ;-) I was going to post pics but I see the new arrangement doesn't allow that.

Nice to have Grendel back but now he REALLY needs the groomer. We still don't know if it's puppies yet, but I believe he had a jolly time. Happy Monday all! - Skye

I've been reading the ppsts but had a busy weekend.  Rebecca, still hoping for you that you can get into the dr for Frances earlier.  Skye glad the shower went well.  I'm hosting one in November and getting a bit nervous even though it's just my side of the family and friends.  Sorry about the sour sister, it sounds like it was better that she stays away.  Cindy, have fun at the festival.. I use to love folk music and this sounds similar.  Melia, glad you had such a wonderful experience with your kids.  It is nice to see them grow up and do well.  Sorry your flower business is so bad.

DS #2 came home for the weekend with his girlfriend who we got to know better.  She seems like a nice girl and they are a good match.  She even got him to go shopping for clothes (with my money and some of his).  He spent $200 which is unheard of for him but he really needed it.  His girlfriend brought her cat, which I am allergic to, but kept it upstairs.  It is a really beautiful cat - the color of Bailey's Irish Cream, tan face, white body.  Now I get to go clean upstairs and try to get rid of the dander without making myself sick.  Of course, they left before they could vacuum.

DS#1 is sick with brochitis in Houston.  Luckily his fiancee is there to visit so she can take care of him.  He went to urgent care on Sunday and the dr said to stay home for two days.  He's feeling much better, and I am relieved that he went to the dr.  Did you hear about Bernie Mac dying of pneumonia.  I know he has a pre-existing condition but that's scary.  I do believe my son's cat is part of his problem since he is allergic but you can't tell them anything.  He had a cold and had just spent 8 hours the day before cleaning before his fiancee came.  He stirred up all of the dander from the cat and the next day he is really sick.  At least they have some time together to talk about the wedding and get going on some of the details.  My boss is off on vacation this week so I get to catch up and be less stressed.  Now, off to cleaning....Hugs,

    Hi Ta Ta's,

Wow, it's been a while since I posted. I don't mean to be MIA but am so incredibly busy. Vegas was short vacation from my ever so busy job.  Still working long days and am pretty much exhausted every night.

We've had such bad weather all summer in New England.  Last week there was a micro-burst over our town and it took part of our beautiful Hickory Tree.  We now have to spend $1,000 for the tree guy to clean up and make the tree stronger so we don't lose it all.  It's the only tree in the backyard and dominates the neighborhood. Here's a pic of our poor tree. (btw, that picture is taken from our deck.  This is the beautiful view we have every day...we absolutely love it and spend a lot of time on our deck)

My Onc called this afternoon and confimed I am indeed post menopausal. I am shocked!  Last October I was highly premenopausal..who knew?

Last night my father in law passed away.  It was expected, but sudden.  He has had a bad heart for 30 years and he finally had the heart attack.  It's going to be a tough week.  The hardest part now is to figure out what to do with George's mom.  She absolutely can't live alone, can hardly walk, can't do stairs, etc.  The weird thing is that I havent' seen George's parents in over a year. George goes to visit them almost every week and last week we decided that I should go.  How weird is that?  I'm so glad I did, although I'm not sure that he knew who I was.

All my pics from Vegas are still on my camera, I'm so sorry.  I have to get through these 2 weeks and then I'm on vacation! I can't wait. I promise I will get the pics uploaded soon.

Did everyone watch the opening ceremonies the other night.  I watch them everytime!  The Chinese did a nice job.  And how about that mens 4 x 100 freesyle race last night...WOW!

I need to spend some time and read back all the messages..I hope everyone is doing ok.  I love you all!

Gorgeous area, Lynn.  I didn't realize Western Mass. was so hilly.  Looks very peaceful.  Do you fly mainly out of Hartford for your job?  I can't envision driving into Logan every day.  How far is the Hartford airport?  I'm suprised to hear about your quick/change menopause status.  That's amazing.  I have put on ten pounds since moving in April and I am having hot flashes here and there...had one tonight in the car.  Came on suddenly and went away just as quick.  Maybe I'm going that way too. You'd think w/all the chemo I had.

I nearly hit a deer tonight on the way home from the grocery store.  Two deer were at the roadside, one crossed in front of me and I stopped.  Meanwhile, a van came flying up in the other direction and his lights spooked Deer #2, who turned around and ran back into the woods.  Deer #1 then decides he's going back too, and races back across the street, literally four feet in front of this van.  Had he hit him, he would have catapulted onto my windshield.  Ick.

Went to Costo today and picked up a 50" plasma w/speakers for the basement.  It's really coming along down there.  Came out nice.  The whole house has really come together the last week or so, except for needing some color/paint.  I do kind of like the monochromatic creme color and I know that's best for resale, so....  we'll see..  Paul's happy w/the house now too.  He much preferred the OH one as it was just a far better house, but now that the decorating is in place here, he's liking it too.

Caya, I'm feeling run down again, after I had rebounded from my Vegas laryngitis.  Sick of this stuff.  I want to feel 100%.  We were trying to work in another wekend trip, but isn't looking likely to happen.  Paul wants to avoid Labor Day like the plaque....well, at least the beaches.  We could head into the Allegheny Mountains. There are a few spa/golf resorts that are top notch...I don't expect there'd much traffic going that direction, but who knows.

Lynn, sorry about your FIL.  That's hard.  I'm glad you got to visit w/him.  I hope something works out w/his mother that's workable for all of you.

Lynn - wow that's the view from your deck? You and George are really lucky.  Only in my dreams could I have a backyard that big, with that gorgeous view. We are on postage stamp  size lots here, I guess I am just used to it.  Sorry about the tree, I hope you can salvage it.  It's great that you wre able to see your FIL before he passed away, for yourself, even if he didn't know it was you.  I also hope you can arrange something workable with your MIL.

Oh Tina, I hear you on being run down. Between being on antibotics every few weeks for another UTI, and now this ear infection, I have felt exhausted forever, it seems.  I am happy to report that my ear pain has pretty much subsided, I am still using the drops for another 2 days,  Your house is coming together so well and so quickly Tina - I don't know how you do it girl.  I mean, you've only been there since April.

Mary - sorry about DS#2 being sick with bronchitis. I also hear you on not being able to tell the kids anything - they are the same everywhere.

Skye - I'm glad your face is improving, and also that the shower went well.  LOL about sour siser and daughter re: widowed mother's retirement funds are cut off- OY!!

Melia - it sounds like a great weekend with your daughters. It's a tribute to you and your DH that they have turned out so well, and seem so grounded.

Lynn, I'm so sorry about your FIL, it's always a shock even when you know they have problems. Hope your dh is doing ok. And sad about the lovely hickory tree too. How did you post the picture?

Caya thank goodness your ear pain is better. I think you need a good weekend of nothing but lounging in the sun to build your strength back.

Mary I'm also allergic to cats and have gotten very sick from big exposure so I feel for your son. I have heard that bathing the cat really often can help a lot; its dander goes into the water. Also using the expensive vacuum cleaners with water filters helps; regular vacuums whoosh a lot of it right back into the air.

Tina, deer can be deadly! I used to collect weird deer stories and there have been some grisly deer/car accidents. For some reason that DC suburb area seems to have lots of Bambi's. I also agree with Caya that you are the speed queen of decorating! Amazing!

I got Grendel in to the groomer's on a last-minute cancellation so must run. He got some mats in his facial fur while at my bro's so I imagine he will have to be clipped way down. Hope everyone has a great day. - Skye

Wow Tina, that basement really sounds wonderful...I vote that you paint it a color you like rather than live in a house that you have colored for "resale"...you can always paint OVER it, and you need to be happy.  Looking for a vacation spot?  Edison is nice.... LOL.

Lynn...I have NO WORDS.  I would kill to have a view like that.  You are so blessed to have natural majesty like that close to you.  It is so beautiful.  That is why we are always packing up and heading to the farm.  Edison is quite urban, and I am a country girl at heart, and want my kids to be the same.  From the photo of the tree I think that it can be saved...just my opinion!.  Keep us posted on it, it is a lovely tree! (OK, maybe I had a few words lol).  My condolences on your FIL.  Hugs to you all.

Skye..sour people lose out on so much, and as such behavior like theirs is self-punishing.  They get what they deserve not because someone dishes it out but because they make their own beds.  May they reside in a house full of lemons to sweeten their dispositions.  You have a whole crew of OTHER sisters now to take her place, and I am sure that any one of us would come and stand lovingly with you at the wedding!

Caya I am glad that you are picking up.  Take it easy...I wonder if all these infections are still a lingering effect of a year on Herceptin?  I can not imagine that there would not be some kind of rebound.

Happy Tuesday to you all...I have to pack for our camping trip today, and I DID manage to create the schedule for my internet class...now I just have to plug it into the online classroom software.

Oh Tina  - do you still have chemo brain?  And your parents can babysit?  Get moving... The only caveat is to make sure you are covered with out of country health insurance.

OK!  I booked my flight!  I go Sept. 12 and return on the 17th.  Thank God I found my passport.  Yes, Lynn, I will have to figure out what to wear...casual stuff that doesn't wrinkle.  I think the weather will be very mild.  This is a dream come true trip.

Caya, these lingering colds are just crazy.  I determined today that my newest version is sinus related.  My upper teeth are aching...from sinus pressure.  Paul is on his way home from work and has a massive sinus headache as well.  Haven't heard of late summer allergies or anything, but....  claritin helped a lot today.
