deformation after biopsy
A few months ago, I underwent a biopsy for ADH. Fortunately, all of the offending tissue was removed and I am one of the lucky ones, though still considered high risk. The problem is that the amount of tissue removed was large enough to leave my small breast looking very disfigured. Have any of you undergone breast reconstruction and or augmentation after a biopsy or lumpectomy? Is this something that is even done?

JDP - Yes, you can do reconstruction after a lumpectomy. I'm a mastectomy gal, so can't give you details but a gal I know who just had it done last week. Assuming you had radiation, that will be a factor, so be sure you get a good plastic surgeon. There are gals on these boards who have had this procedure so I imagine you'll be hearing more soon.

JDP - Sorry nobody is responding to you. Why don't you post on the Reconstruction board, more likely to find someone there who can tell you something helpful.

Thanks. I'll try posting there.

Hi,
I went through a surgical biopsy last year for ADH as well. Fortunately my breast seems okay. I'm just curious - did you undergo radiation? I have heard people that have had ADH sometimes do have radiation but it was never suggested to me. Unfortunately, the calcifications that were removed are coming back and I go in again in October for yet another mammo and meet with the surgeon.
Good luck with reconstruction!

Turnberry, I had 2 biopsies/lumpectomies 18 months apart for ADH - once in each breast. I did not get rads for it but when I had the dx of DCIS in the same area as the 2nd surgery, I opted for bilat mast. After the first dx of ADH I was put on a 6 month mammo schedule to keep track on what was going on.

Radiation was never even mentioned. I suppose it was because the biopsy clearly removed all the ADH, which was over a small focused area anyhow. Fortunately, I just returned for my 6month mammogram, and checked out ok. I'm still a bit confused about the pros and cons of reconstruction after an excisional biopsy. Maybe reconstruction isn't really what would be needed in this case, but perhaps a straightforward implant? ...actually, two would be good, to get up to at least a symmetrical B cup on both sides!

I had a lumpectomy too. My breast doesn't look the same either, and the nipple tips upward, but it's OK..... The tumor is gone and I'm alive. That's what matters to me.
