I had one during my initial dx since my tumor could only be seen on the MRI.  The most painful part was getting the injection to numb the area.  Other than that, I could feel the surgeon taking the samples, but felt no pain.  My breast was a little tender for the next couple of days but nothing bad.  But, that could be because I was numb all over from the whole bc experience.

Sorry to hear they see another spot.  Good luck!

Hi connie, thank you so much. Are you on your stomach when they take the sample?

Yes, you are face down.  Your breasts are in an open area so they hang down.

    Heidi,

I am sorry to hear that they have found another spot.  I had an MRI guided biopsy in 4/08 during my initial dx and did not find the actual biopsy painful.  However the nurse squeezed the breast after the biopsy to remove any blood at the biopsy site to reduce the chances of a hematoma.  That was a little shocking, but I made it through.  I also was sore for a few days and black and blue for a week or two.

Good Luck and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes sorry to hear you have another lump! Darn it!  Hoping it's a seroma or scar tissue!

I had the US Bx on the primary IDC/DCIS and then the pre-op MRI found the second one (ILC/LCIS).  The following weeks lumpectomy was cancelled and instead I had an MRI guided Bx.  If you want or NEED xanax, ask for it ahead of time.  ALso as whether you can take ibrupro or such ahead of time.  Can't remember if I could or not.  It hurt like hell for me, but I was already bruised near there in another quadrant from the previous bx, so it might have been that.

They do squish your breast in like a mammo screen that they can mark where exactly it is before hand after the initially mri while you have that compressed, then they bring you out, raise the table and the doc and tech sit beneath you and do the deed.  Remember to breath.  Must easier on your body and mind and Do tell them if it hurts, as they can some times do something for you.

hi everyone, thanks so much for responding. It sounds as if Im gonna feel like a cow with utters hanging - how humiliating ha :) anyway, yes, I had an old MRI a week ago and they said they saw a "spot" that wasn't scar tissue (had blood runnig thru it apparently) and they then gave me an ultra-sound biopsy and couldn't find it!!! - SO, now they want to take a NEW MRI on this new aurora thermography (i think) machine and if they see it there, they will do the mri biopsy. SO? Im praying that this "new" machine doesn't see anything OR that its benign ofcourse. Thanks everyone for answering. I really really appreciate it. At least I know what to expect - knowledge is power ;)
