58 y/o, Oncotype Score of 20, No Chemo

Hi,
I am 54, nearing 55 now, I had colon cancer at age 44 with surgery and 9 months weekly chemo, no radiation. In Dec I was dx with IDC stage 1 grade 1, node neg, ER and PR positive, HER2 neg, with lumpectomy and a 2nd to get the margins clear. should have been just radiation after surgery but then the Oncotype placed me dead middle of the intermediate range. So my oncologist strongly recommended chemo which I had only 4 although at first was going to be 8 treatments. It wasn't fun but it was not that bad either. Of course lost my hair, eyebrows but don't have to shave my arms or legs either....I feel it was the best course to keep me cancer free and grow into the old woman I intend to be in 30 or 40 years. At present there is no research to show either way for intermediate scores, however it was only 12 weeks and may be the key to remaining cancer free that woman before us did not have the opportunity to try. Just started radiation, tomorrow is #2.

Blessed58 - I'm almost right there with you. I am 55 years old. I am on an AI right now but have to switch to Tamox because of my bones.

lauriebeth: Sounds like we are on the same path. I have four t/c treatments. Start rads this Thursday. Brows still intact, eyelashes are going. It's nice not to have to shave our legs, isn't it. However, the pesty chin hairs are returning! LOL

I just received my oncotype score of 20 and am trying to decide about the chemo. I know I will need radiation and tamoxifen . I was diagnosed with stage 1 inductive loblur carcinoma and am 54 years old.
Hope you are doing well

I was 18. The data showed that chemo would add a whopping 3 months to my life. Needless to say, I went with just radiation. Good luck with your treatment, whichever you decide on. If you have any questions, holler. We're all different, but there are a few radiation basics. :-)
