Please Help! Period come back after 2.5 years
After 8 round of Chemo and 2.5 year tamoxifen, doctor ordered a blood test to confirm I fall into menopause. I switched to femara in Jul. However, my Gyno found my endometrum to get thickness in Aug 11. Then D&C in Sep 11. Yesterday's follow up checking, I told my Gyno it seems that my periods come back as I got some slightly bleeding since last thursday. What can I do now? I am scared because I haven't taken the effective drugs(i.e. tamoxifen) for 4 months. I wonder is it important. Should I stop taking Femara and switching to Tamoxifen?
Please help!

Hi SL448!
I too was on tamoxifen for two years - never had a blood test taken and my onc put me on aromasin, which I've been taking for four months. I had slight vaginal bleeding for only three days. My onc thought that because I didn't have my period for two years, he assumed I was post-meno. Took a blood test recently to confirm that I'm in menopause. I am scheduled for an US Wednesday. I too had thickening of the endometrium but heard this is normal when taking tamo. I'm holding your hands...hugs. Keep me posted.

Lam -- thanks for your input.
I requested the Gyn to re-do the blood test for my hormonal level last friday, I will know the result this Wed. I hope that my period won't come back. I can't imagine the outcome that I haven't taken tamoxifen for four months if I am still in preimenopause.
I will keep you posted for sure.

Please do keep in touch...as I will you.

The FSH result confirmed that I am still in menopause. Thanks God! I ate the correct medicine. And the bleeding was stopped. My Gyn did not explain why I got bleeding. She just said I cn come back if bleeding again.

I just saw your note and wanted to comment since I also took Femara for 4.5 yrs instead of tamoxifen. I was premenopausal but placed on chemically induced menopause. It involved getting a monthly zoladex (lupron) shot. I did have some breakthrough bleeding at first but that was all. If your periods do come back, ask your doc about the zoladex (lupron) shots. They will suppress your ovaries while taking Femara. Femara is far more aggressive drug than tamoxifen with higher success rate. BTW - I was Stage III with positive nodes, have already finished all my treatments and have been cancer free for 6 years. I wish you the same results!

I still too am in menopause but my obgyn ordered an ultrasound done which I just did today. I need to hear from her about it but the technician said that I have a lot of polyps.
These meds sure does strange things to our bodies. The pills are so teeny but they sure do alter the inside of our bodies.
BTW - is Femara for menopausal or post-menopausal women?

menopausal
