I THOUGHT of that Nixon comment when Christie was holding forth...LOL.  Like the Casablanca comment, christie has really hit all the low points of reference in the zeitgeist...this one is gonna play for a l-o-n-g time.

I'm with alexandria on the swings in temp  - this is really getting disorienting, from 55 now back down just on the edge of freezing - too strange.

Morning Friends,

Our weather is really screwy too.  Freezing rain the last two days and now the high is in the upper 50's, then snow forecast just after that.  I wouldn't mind if it stayed in the 50's!!

Yikes!  The Saints got their hands spanked yesterday by the Seahawks.  Going to root for my guy on the 49'ers today! And then the rivalry match between my old team the Chargers and the Broncos!

I did see something posted on the internet this morning about impeaching Christie.  I didn't read the article.

Mr. Tim is going to try his best to make it home today.  He's coming up from the Miami area .... where the sun is shining and the temps are in the high 70's!

Need to get busy and get going ... have errands to run and dogs to walk before football comes on.

Going to see some extremes here as well.  Up to 60 today.  Knew it was coming yesterday.  Now we will cool off again, but till then we will have fairly nice days.  The sun is out bright today too, which is going to really encourage the feel of a wonderful Spring day ( if only it was ) but if nothing else hoping some of the 'mud' dries out.

Haven't heard much news today, but there will still be  a lot of "Christie" stuff.  He didn't dare tell the "whole" truth, but the 'incident' was so major that it is not going to go anywhere until good, solid, truthful, and in plain language answers for everything turn up.  I do believe the article which states the Repugs will forgive because that is their history, even when it hurts them.  How smart is that ????  There are just so many, many more who won't that what his own party does won't matter.

I read a piece where the TP'ers are looking  to dump Cantor.  Seems to be a lot of sinners in their group.  They are so warped.  Someone knows what they are doing, but as long as they keep going the direction they are !!!!!!!

Inquiring minds want to know:  Will her family end up having to pay the enormous hospital bill caused by the Texas hospital that insists on keeping a brain-dead woman on life-support to, supposedly, preserve the life of her fetus?

And, if that fetus does not develop into a fully functioning infant and child, will the hospital continue to bill the family for all the healthcare costs and hospitalizations that will inevitably ensue?

C4C, I certainly hope so. The family deserves reimbursement. But we're talking about Texas!

Oh my dog!  I was wondering the same thing carrots.  If the state wants her kept alive because of its antiabortion, ever, legislation isn't it obligated to pay the costs to the hospital for her care and that if her fetus.  It is a slippery slope if the state pays.  Might mean they might have to cover other people medical costs because of the precedent.  What do you think Alexandria?

Yorkie -- But because of the fact that the hospital is going against the wishes of the patient and her family, do you really think the hospital should bill the family for her care?

This situation has so many different facets.  We had a somewhat similar case in Toronto where a 60-yr-old man suffered complications following surgery and ended up brain-dead, or at least in a vegetative state.  The docs wanted to take him off life support, saying essentially that they couldn't treat a patient who was, for all intents and purposes, dead.  The family wanted him kept alive, and so far this is costing approx. $1M per year. (Which means we taxpayers are paying for it).

This also reminds me of that girl in California whose family is so insistent on keeping her on life support, under the unfounded belief that she will "come back" to them.  Wonder who's paying her bills?

c4c, kay, - and what about the wishes of the FAMILY of the woman who is not alive by medical standards?   She was probably too young to have a Living Will, or any kind of documentation of her own wishes, but that means her nearest relatives, get to speak for her.

I think the hospital SHOULD pay, but Texas seems to have ways to screw citizens with abandon. Maybe because there is a state law about taking pregnant women off life support the hospital can weasel out of paying. It's a disgusting and horrifying situation. I believe that baby will be severely damaged. Who knows how much nutrition etc. he's getting from his dead mom.

Sometimes the only way that a law gets either amended or thrown out completely (because all possible circumstances have not be foreseen) is for such a tragic situation such as this to occur.  In the long run, let's hope that the family WILL be re-imbursed, if not by the Hospital, then by the state itself.

I've no doubt this was a law brought in by Repubs.  Why is it that Repubs and TPers are always crying about too much government, and yet they're always ready to bring in laws that directly affect people in a way that limits the individual's "freedom" to make her own decisions?

Mary - you'll have to answer to me first on that 49er comment. Hmmph.  I love that the 49ers beat Green Bay on it's own turf during the Polar Vortex, in Green Bay, yet the Saints put up an incredibly good game, in Seattle, the noisiest stadium amongst them all, in the pouring rain in wind!!  Too bad the actual Superbowl won't be between the Seahawks and 49ers.  They are the two best teams.

And since this board has an East Coast bias, I will add with a wink, the two best cities in the USA!

On the subject of the woman on life support - she may have expressed wishes to not be kept alive but her wishes may have been different if she knew she was pregnant - how long until the baby is due? I think it would be horrible to turn off her life support if the baby is near term.

Busy day yesterday - my brother came to visit and in a mad moment I jumped in the car with him and we went for a 50 minute drive to the Gold Coast to see my mother. He had forgotten to give her some money on Saturday and was going to go back and give it to her. Got back at 6pm or so. Very crazy on my part seeing I do not get along with her at all. He appreciated the company however. He called when we were 15 minutes out but he didn't tell her I was with him. When we pulled up and she saw I was in the car she said to herself "Öh Shit" - yes I can lip read. Luckily we didn't stay long.

Suzie, I think the baby is 14 weeks along. Long way to go until birth.

Suzie -- The woman on life support (and who was without oxygen for at least one hour) was only 14 weeks along.  She was a paramedic, which is apparently one of the reasons she had talked to her husband and family about not wanting to be on life support if there was no hope.  I wonder what effect her being deprived of oxygen for that length of time would have on the fetus.

Wow .. 14 weeks isn't that far along.  I hope the baby survives.  Can the baby get enough nutrition to make it to 8 or 9 months?

My "old lady crush" just spanked the Panthers!  Yay ... what a fun game.  Mr. Tim called and he should be home about halfway through the Chargers/Broncos game.  Hope he doesn't get delayed along the way.  The yard in NC is about 2 1/2 hours from home.
