Just heard on the radio that Indianapolis is banning all but government vehicles within the city limits.  And a friend in Michigan tells me she was faced with a 3-foot snowdrift at her front door this morning!  We had rain last night but then the cold moved in so what fell on the snowbanks and the slushy streets is now frozen.  Not safe for walking, unfortunately.  A good reason to have pet kitties instead of dogs!

Hi Gals,

I used to watch the Good Wife ... lost interest in it about a year ago.  I don't watch much regular TV ... too impatient with all the commercials.  Mostly, I just watch the movie channels.

Spent another morning in tears.  Geez ... ever since my meltdown Friday, the damn tears just fall out whenever they feel like it. It makes it hard to transcribe my reports this morning!  I've done a lot of investigating about my tooth problem this morning, including trying to find a dental college.  The closest one to me is about 4 hours away and would require three visits (consultation, root canal, follow up), so that's not really an option.

At this point I'm scheduled to have my tooth pulled this Friday.  Have to wait that long to get through a course of antibiotics first. Just called the dentist to get a refill on the pain meds.  It's amazing that it costs $1,000 for the root canal and $155 to pull the tooth.  They both take about the same amount of time to perform!

Mr. Tim wants us to get married.  And then I will be covered by his insurance for medical, dental and vision.  We've been together 8 1/2 years already, but marriage seems kind of scary to me.  I've already had a few husbands and they didn't work out. We've talked about it in the past, but he's really pushing for it now.  I did find out that a marriage license is only $30.  Weird, huh.  $30 bucks to get married, but $1,000 to fix a tooth.  They don't have a clerk at the court house that can marry you.  And we don't have a church. They did say they had a list of people who can perform the ceremony. I wonder if they also provide the witnesses too.

Oh well ... way too much to think about right now ... need to take another pain pill and get back to work.

I read the Maureen Jennings Murdoch mysteries and really enjoyed them. The show (Murdoch Mysteries) on Canadian television) is lots of fun as it has the usual mysteries without the gore on many of the other ones on TV - and there is always something to show hints in 1895 of technology to come.

ETA - Bren, if getting health care is the primary difference between being married and not, why not?!

ADORED Brideshead.  Agree with Blue, love the time period, but really think DA is too much of what c4c has described, pure marketing.  I know, I know, "commerce" rules, and the problem (IMHO) with so much of the world is how "Americanized" it has become - really, how many McDonalds, KFC does the world need?  So much about what is pretending to be news and/or culture in the States today is just someone SCREAMING "LOOK AT ME" - "I am famous for being, well, if you keep paying attention to me, famous."

UGH. I only see it online, and that's when I literally stumble upon it, don't know who most of the people are, but couldn't miss someone named Miley Cyrus - OMG, just wanted to have someone tell her to BRUSH HER TONGUE. Seriously, looked so coated and unhealthy!

So much for my being a cultural critic :-))))))   Don't know the "Murdoch" you are referring to, only read Iris Murdoch, and loved love loved her.  Who am I missing?

Loooove Downton (Dame Maggie Smith just makes it).  Never saw Brideshead.  Haven't seen Murdoch. Does anyone remember "Poldark?" It was on PBS in the late 1970s (I graduated from college in 1979).  High-class soap opera it was!  Oooh, and I love Doc Martin as well.

Well yeah.  Of course.  I think.

Inspector William Murdoch of the Toronto Constabulary, Dr.  Julia xxx (forget her name). And a cast of lovely funny actors (Canadian).  Where else could you learn about the physiological results of cyanide poisoning and not be totally grossed out? My eleven year old granddaughter and I love it.  And most British cop shows, Hamish MacBeth comes to mind.  

We are having a snow day.  I cut work, we did crafts and after a late lunch will see what we can find on AppleTV.  Likely Hettie Wainthrop.

Bren - run out and get married quickly and then get your tooth fixed I didn't realise you two weren't married and couldn't understand why you had no dental when Tim works.

I don't think Downton is skewed for an American audience - I love it - goodness knows when the new series will air here. I usually buy the DVD set from the UK and see all of it before they finish screening here.

Hehehe do you want me to tell you what happens in Downton Abbey. We had it late last year; just thinking of all the fun I could have. 

Murdoch sounds wonderful. We get a mix of British and US programmes here but not too many Canadian ones, well not true, get hundreds of home improvement ones on the Living Channel.

So many posting at nearly the same time - a certain person's WEDDING didn't get enough attention...

WEDDING - BREN - YES, YES, YES....just a "legal" convention, which means YOU get health care ( which you deserve), dental care( which you deserve AND NEED) and well, it's a piece of paper, parts of society deem, well, useful, meaningful?  whatever - really DOES seem loving and PRACTICAL.

And as dear ole Oscar Wilde is noted to have said "marriage is the triumph of hope over experience."

I VOTE FOR HOPE, and Mr. Tim.  Yeah, Bren.  Put on yer Nikes, and "just do it."

re Murdoch...I think the new shows started tonight.   I will check my pvr.   I have heard that the series is going to be aired in the States soon.  For those of you who remember Konakat and her love of Mounties, I would think she was a fan of the handsome Murdoch as well.

Good Morning Girlfriends!

It's a beautiful sunny, but very cold, morning.  We're down in the single digits with a high forecast for 18 degrees.  Not used to such cold temps in this part of Virginia.  I turned the furnace down last night and it's taking forever for it to warm up in here. 

Sunnyflowers ... You are a romantic at heart!  So is Mr. Tim.  Me, not so much.  I'm the practical one who thinks way too much about every little thing.  I did check into getting a marriage license and it's only $30.  The problem is there is no Clerk of the Court or JP to perform the ceremony.  They did tell me they had a list of folks who were legally able to perform a marriage.  Guess I would have to look into that as we don't have a church we belong to.  Tax-wise it would be a huge benefit to Tim if we did get married.  Just something to think about.

PiP ... I do remember Konakat and her love of the mounties.  My favorite picture of Elizabeth is the one where she has on the bright pink wig and is sitting on the back of a Harley with John.  She had such a great love of life.   And chocolate cake too!

Blue ... Love the graphic of the Pope.  He seems like a wonderful man ... for all people to love and admire, not just the Catholics.

Time to get busy around here ... my fingers are freezing ... maybe some nice hot water while I do the dishes will warm them up!

Morning, oh, so STUBBORN Bren, jeez..how does WONDERFUL Mr. Tim put up with you?  WOW, even pays more in taxes to stay with you...seems definitely time to change all that...I think you should ( and I really never, NEVAH, use that word) get an index card, cut into teeny weeny pieces, and on ONE of the pieces, list the "reasons" for not getting married to Mr. Wonderful Tim...

Betcha can't come up with enuf to fill the teeeniest weeniest piece of paper...

Cold, who knows?  It's such an ice rink out there, I haven't even thought of going outside!  45 degrees & Rain yesterday, below 0 by night, and then a little snow, think it's just about enuf to cover the black ice?  The Sun rose in a HUGE red glow this morn, "sailor's be warned" and is still shining brightly ( For you non easterners: "Red sky at dawn, sailors be warned, red sky at night, sailor's delight.")
