ECOG 5103 enrollment suspended. Anyone else on it? What are you gonna do?

    hrmmm,

     I am enrolled in this study and got my first round yesterday. I notice that this article says that those already in the study can decide to continue or not. I will wait and see if NCI publishes the suspension in their bulletin next week. It does not appear on their site yet. Kinda odd/funny that the first place to announce it is MASDAQ, whose primary concerns are the profits of Roche, the pharma company. There are several other late-phase trial the are looking at Avastin. Wonder what will happen to them?

    Dear Rachel,

    None of the other trials involving Avastin are affected. If you are wondering whether the news is official, it is. WSJ, Nasdaq and Reuters all carried the press release issued by Roche and Genentech. That is a face saving way to have the pharma company make the release and sound responsible. I'd think  that there was a lot of arm twisting in the back room  before the enrollment was suspended. The official announcements from NCI, ECOG etc are all imminent.

    Actually, under Securities Laws, the company would have to do a Regulatory Announcement on the stock exchange concerned, as this would be an announceable event relating to news that could affect the stock price.

    Does anyone know why it was suspended?  Was it found to be toxic??? Or was it just found not to be worth the effort???  Or?????????

    They found 6 cases of CHF from the first 200 patients that got Avastin. That was a trigger in the trial conditions to suspend the trial when the 6th case of CHF happened.

    No 1 knows if Avastin is worth the effort. It is a bit early to say that one way or another.

    Every time I feel scared, I just need to remind myself that I can pull out of the trial any day....
